  • What's a stack?

I've been doing wrestling for a year now and I've heard the term "STACK HIM, DUDE" so many times yet don't know what it means. So what exactly is a stack and how is it done?

There are alot of ways to get there, but it basically involves trapping the man on his own neck with his own torso 'stacked' above him, pressure being applied down through the torso to the neck. It's very very uncomfortable and makes him look and feel like a chump.

And it makes it very hard for him to breathe.

Even harder if he's trying to resist you.

A simple example of a stack would be sprawling out in someone's guard and trying to get them up onto their shoulders. Frankly, I don't think it works well unless you are appreciably larger than your opponent. The exception to that would be escaping a guillotine choke--stacking/framing on the throat helps me out there sometimes.

Another time to stack might be when someone is trying for an armbar from the bottom. If you get them up onto their shoulders and keep them crunched up, it will be difficult to extend for the armbar. However, you still have to watch out that you don't get swept and/or they don't go out the back door for a belly-down armbar.

                  Hope that was helpful.

And you should change your name to bjjiknowalittlebutnotmuch since you didn't know what stacking was.

If I recall, it's also part the gaurd escape or "passing" the gaurd. BJJ theory and technique, pg.63. LOL

I see. Your post was quite helpful except the last part. Your last sentence made me sad and hurt my feelings. Now I'm going to confide in Rippy the Razor...
