Try fighting anyone, any range, while they have a weapon and you dont. See what happens.

Excellent streetfighting advice.
Can't argue with that at all, although I wouldn't back away from taking the opportunity to submit the single attacker on the ground if the opportunity presented itself.

That's right, because there are no martial arts out there with weapons disarmsIt's much easier to disarm someone when you're standing up then on the ground, especially cause when you're taking them down you could end up landing on it, not a good thing if it's a few inches of steel and sharp.

Originally posted by Tap4MeYa, try disarming and slip up or let the guy get a lucky shot, that is all she wrote. Why are you turning this into BJJ vs. Weapons now? It was BJJ vs. Gangs. Iam talking bjj from a 1v1 hand combat situation.

Not another one of these threads. Alright it is not a rule in bjj to take the fight to take the fight to the ground but it does not have many techniques besides groundfighting. Obviously there are problems with bjj in the street, mostly weapons and multiple opponents. You never know if you are in a one on one fight. Just because you can't see his friends doesn't mean they are not there. So obviously taking the fight to the ground is a bad idea. BJJ is very good in a fight when you are surronded by your family members and there is no one else around. But the other thing is that not preparing yourself to go to the ground is a bad idea. Just because its not a smart thing to do does not mean you should not prepare yourself in case you end up there. Fights happen in all ranges.

I never said it wasn't effective, I believe it is a good idea to learn groundfighting just so you won't panic when you get on the ground and you'll learn how to get your opponent off of you so you can stand up again.

Originally posted by koto_ryuAnd any witnesses nearby will swear it looked like you started the fight and you'll get nailed with excessive force, cause once the cops come and see his face looking like dog meat, you're not going to be in too good of a position. The mount's naturally a very agressive posture, and if you see a guy on top of someone like that pounding another guy's face in, more than likely they're going to side with your opponent, unless he has some sort of visible weapon, say a switchblade. Try groundfighting a guy with a switchblade and see what happens

"if I don't have to"?
Isn't it nice that you have choices? Back to the strip-mall, boy.
