Please don't be any more stupid than you absolutely have to be

Oddly enough, I find that in fights...even though my background is mostly stand-up (Muay thai, boxing, and some junfan/wing chun stuff) I tend to take things to the ground, and always try to apply an RNC. Weird.
I've gleaned a bit of BJJ and Shooto/CSW here and there...but not nearly as much as my muay thai background, but I always try to get the RNC, and most often don't even strike...I wonder why the hell that is...

i think this is very understandable (if i read it right and you're talking outside the ring). personally i feel more confident ground fighting than standing even though my newaza isn't particularly a whole lot better than my tachi. there's more of a sense of being in control of the situation when you're grappling up close like that. trading blows standing up, there's always that chance of an untrained opponent landing a lucky hit. not so much with the lucky armbar.
there are other reasons i could go on rambling about, but mainly i think it boils down to the fact that the most essential human instinct is to keep oneself safe. i think training in grappling appeals to that instinct more strongly than striking training, and if you judge grappling to be a viable option (ie you're confident the fight will stay one on one, and a thousand times moreso if your opponent is untrained in grappling) it is a more comfortable choice than to duke it out.

You do realize, don't you, that your position also logically extends to "Everybody knows every form of combat that ever has or ever will exist"?
when you first started wrestling im sure you had the thought process that you knew most of whitch there is to know. but when the years passed by you learned new more effective ways to win.you of all people should know this. you favored some moves over others your technique was better year after year and with your technique you won and you lost. the difference between state champ and 2nd place is technique. we all know how to do things its a matter of how we do it.

The difference between 1st and 2nd place is often simple luck.
As for what ClooneyTKD said, I went into martial arts realizing that I knew absolutely nothing. I applied myself, studied everything I could, and played for keeps.
I never ever figured that I knew HOW to do something. There are things that I never knew how to do, and it took me a long time to learn them.
The knowledge is not innate.

Its true that some people are decent boxers without ever having proper training, some people are decent wrestlers w/o training. But there has never been anyone who was a decent martial artist without training. I always had good hands and I'd won quite a few fights with them, but after a few weeks with a good instructor I was better by leaps and bounds. Its retarded to say everyone knows how they just need to polish their technique. You have to learn the technique first, otherwise all you're doing is instinctively flailing around.

Let me clarify, my idea of a "decent" would be someone who would come out on top against someone with an equal amount of experience, or inexperience. I'm just saying some people are naturally good strikers, or grapplers. That's why many people learn faster than others. In no way am I implying someone with no training would beat a trained fighter's ass if he was "born good", that would be stupid.

Ive seen a lot of your posts here and you never have positive information. Do you masturbate to your stupid attempts at witticism? I said some people are naturally better than others, and learn faster. Instruction would just polish and hone their natural aptitudes. All you have said is "you're stupid...>rolling eyes<" You contribute so much to this forum...

and as for all you tools that take what i say and make it personal i honestly dont know why you get so upset. its like when you eat eat chinese food and someone tells you that your going to have the squirts. you say no, no way am i going to have the squirts. no one believes it until they see it. i can only state my opinion and have every one on these forums flip out at it. so its kind of like when i say why are you guys so negative, then one of you guys posts some smart ass comment anyways so its kind of pointless. have a good day d-bags.
