I was a bit pissed when i answered this post so dont take it to heart.
I Had Done Hapkido for many years and i hold it in high regard.
After dicovering gracie Jiu-Jitsu i stopped the Hapkido so that i would be able to throw myself into my Jiu-jitsu.After a couple of years of Jiu jitsu and Vale tudo i tried picking up where i left off in Hapkido.Could no do it.Going from the free flowing soft art like Jiu jitsu back to what i feel is a hard art of Hapkido & Karate.I felt that i had grown as a fighter dude to jiu jitsu and vale tudo.i have never sinse changing from hapkido to Jiu jitsu-Vale used any of the hapkido techniques in fights that i have had.It just seemed to conflict with the style and fighter i have become.I just cant see Royce going for katas and high flying fancy kicks when the kicks etc he uses are set up for seting up the clinch and takedown and then submision.
Just disregard if it makes no sense.

Royce trained kickboxing to help his MMA, but as far as grappling goes, he does pure BJJ.

Hapkido is not made for MMA and would not do well under MMA rules. As far as the sport of MMA goes, Hapkido is a step backwards.

Tom Yum - I still don't understand this omoplata pin business.... I would like to see the Hapkido omoplata pin.... since it is a BJJ shoulder lock from the guard.

          Sure.

The Omoplata in this application is similar to some Hapkido techniques, that rely on using your knee or leg to painfully pin part of the arm to the ground.

omapalata is a made up word.It doesnt even mean anything outside of the Bjj circle.
it has no meaning in the Spanish,Italian or Portuguese languages.
Same as gogopalata.Only in the bjj community

thats more of a cutting armbar than a omapalata

                        Thanks for the pic!

Now that I can actually see the sub close-up, Akebonos elbow is pointing to the sky, with his wrist being twisted in the same direction. Gracies leg is securing it. Awesome.

This is a fundamental technique taught in Hapkido, probably also taught in Aikido as well as Jujitsu but it takes a man with cajones like Royce to show us how to use it for real.
