I never thought Ken Shammy was a legitimate MMA fighter. Sure, he was good in a time when few people understood the entire MMA repetoire, but when the game became known to everyone, he just disappeared, along with his brother. Today's MMA athletes are of a higher caliber... They know all the submissions, all the strikes and tools. We've come full circle again and the game is anybody's.

Ken Shamrock lost for obvious reasons:

    1. He's too old.

    2. He was fighting a younger, more fit, more aggressive adversary.

    3. His skills aren't up to par with today's fighters. Think about it.... Shammy went for his life-line immediately - his toe hold, leg lock, etc... Then, when that didn't work, he desparately tried a high kick, which caused him to lose.

No, Shamrock excuted a poor high roundhouse kick and lost his balance. I noticed that his left leg wasn't in a free motion where he can twist his ankle and knee together for a kick. Remember that he had sustained injuries on his knees. It's likely that he isn't flexible enough for a high kick.

High kicks "rarely" work in a real fight or mma competition.

it can work in any fight if a fighter can excute it correctly. but its not wise to use in a real fight.

I heard recently that he broke his artificial hip while trying to hit Franklin which probaly explains his slips. But I watched in slow motion when he was recieving the punches on the ground and he had his hands up for the first but he got nailed right in the jaw with the second and his eyes kind of glazed and he recieved even more punches.

Yeah I think its great that everyone says Shamrock is too old, and that he lost because hes old, and that his reflexes are going because hes old, its not his fault that hes old, if im not mistaken Couture, the light-heavyweight champion, my vote for the best in the UFC, and probably my favorite of all time, is 42 years old.... (if im not mistaken).... thats older then shamrock... so how is age an excuse?

I watched the fight too and I think it would be nearly impossible for someone to through an MMA fight without looking like a person who was trying to throw the fight. Ken Shamrock is getting older but he is still extremely tough. I haven't heard much from Frank in a while though, does anyone know where he has been?

Yea, you must be really good and really fast with your kicks because Most people would sweep you; if you tried that or either shoot in and slam you to the ground. Pride rules don't allow sweeps and takedowns.

along with his brother.....aka frank shamrock.

                          hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

                          you are a mullet!!!!!!

you said these new guys know all the submissions.....so did/does frank

he killed tito through perfect technique and strategy. to question frank shamrock's ability is a mma sin.

                          hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.......what a potato......hahahahaha

i believe his last fight was against bryan pardoe at WEC 6........on 3/27/2003

so you are telling me that in 2 years....all of the sudden these "new" fighters somehow evolved to become super fighting athletes....and now know "all the submissions" as opposed to 2 years ago before the invention of the arm bar and triangle choke........hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

                          who is this snorkel????

im just surprised to see how many people were shocked at how sham performed. I must admit it was a little quick but the out come is by no ways a surprise. Sham was great but its way over due for retirement or he should stick to special match ups eg.( kimo vs sham) Im also surprised that they keep tagging Rich Franklin as the up and comer??? Hes been around for ages and hes been winning all the time?? I dont know why Ufc didnt keep him after his first bout in the org. against evan tanner.
Maybe hes been too busy being a stand in double in hollywood for jim carrey??

Randy Couture just happens to be a healthiest man. Shamrock has been through many injuries. People has their own timing. I guess that the fight decrees Shamrock to retire.
