Helio was way smaller, and he was still perfecting BJJ at the time, since it didnt even "exist" really. A Black Belt of today of Helios size, would destroy Kimura.
Funny though is Sak breaking Renzo Gracies arm via a kimura in Pride, how Renzo fell for that was ridiculous.
theres the weight class arguement again and the fact they dont learn from thier mistakes is evident

Anyway, if you showed a video of someone throwing a punch and then getting knocked out (by a counter punch, or whatever really) would that 'prove' that punching is a bad idea?
either you are arguing for the sake of arguing or you really dont undertand fighting....leading with your face, head, throat, neck, head, and eyes, by shooting in like that is an exteremly commited (perhaps the most of any movement) which is also extremely stupid, as that clip showed...you cant end the fight with the shoot, but if you miss or are countered you can suffer a fight ending blow....

also, punches are faster, can be changed up, are less commited and are much safer than leading with some of the most vulnerable parts of your body... and a punch can end the fight...the shoot cant...its a preparation movement...

Well, thanks for showing that you have never encountered a real shot and have no idea what you are talking about. Good job Barbie.

I am getting tired of saying this (I'm sure someone will call me a "Nut Hugger")but I agree with everything JKD187 says above. Proper cross training (see www.straightblastgym.com) includes ground, striking and clinch but also knives, guns, sticks. Their is no one ultimate martial art. This quote should finish this thread.

                        Cam,

I'm not arguing that cross-training isn't the best... I cross-train myself, coming from a kickboxing background. But, if I had to examine all my techniques, BJJ comes off as the most legitimate against other martial arts. That's my point.

This is not the same argument presented in 1992. In 1992, we had people saying BJJ was the best style... and that it was invincible. However, as people began to learn aspects of BJJ, the game changed. Unfortunately, these same people are now saying BJJ wasn't anything afterall... Now that BJJ can be defeated by MMA, cross-training, or hybrids of BJJ, you have people coming out and acting as if they knew all along BJJ wasn't more than a bag of tricks. Even myself at times (during my initial stages), wondered about the true legitimacy of BJJ. However, after taking all these dynamics into consideration, experience and history tells us that BJJ is among the most efficient martial arts system, if not the most.

I hope that clears up my point.

                          pstevens,

Yes it does clear up your position.

BUT... Your well reasoned argument and the statement you made below "BJJ is among the most efficient martial arts system, if not the most" do not seem to go with the thread title "Why BJJ is the Ultimate Martial Art".

A title like that will always end in a crap thread even though the points you have made in your last post are valid.
