Whats with this goonberry? He is the most annoying commentator ever, describing every move that every guy is trying to do. Does he even train? I wish he would shut the **** up, bring back the old dudes like Jim Brown lol

Contrary to what boarspear said he is not a GJJ lover....he is actually against what they teach. He is a purple belt under Eddie Bravo who is a real legit grappler who wants BJJ to evolve and stear away from the holy garment aka the gi and all the gracies methods.IM willing to bet my house that all the Joe Rogan haters will get there ass handed to them by him.He dose come off as a bit annoying at times with the 10000xs he says "he's rocked!!!" but other then that the guy is cool.

What? Bravo is a black belt under Jean Jaques Machado, ala the "Gracie Barra" roots. Rogan is a GJJ lover, especially if he is a purple in it.
Bravo might like to train without the Gi, but he'll have NOTHING to teach if he's going to evolve away from [/B] all the gracies methods[/B]. Maybe that triangle he caught Royler in at the ADCC he learned from , umm, who????
I dont hate Rogan, he just seems to keep trying explain whats happening in the octagon like nobodies ever seen it before and we all want to know what the "mount" is. Edit his ongoing commentary, and he's fine. I like when BRavo is commentating, he's better. But he has a HUGE FUCKING EGO. He was commentationg on the ADCC this year and kept saying how he can beat this guy and that guy and can beat Marcio Feitosa; beat a Gracie and you think you can beat everyone I guess

Rogan is explaning the breakdown of all the techniques for the newer fans who are joining in from tuf and you would be surprised at how many people cannot tell what is going on even with experience.Slight little movements from the high guard to the set up for a triangle or omaplata are easy for experienced jiu jitsu players to see but even the most hardcore fan with no exp will not know what is going on bro.Obviously you do not own Jiu Jitsu unleashed or know to much about Eddie Bravo because what he teaches and what the Gracies and the Machados teach for very different beasts....the techniques might be somewhat the same but the set up and application are TOTALLY DIFFERENT.Bravos setups are one of a kind.....people might know them or know of them but hes the only one pulling them off in NO-GI comp.I mean come on the guy made up a move he never practiced and pulled it off against Royler....if you saw the who match you would of saw the 20 times he put him in the jailbreak and swept him with old school.....you woullda saw the mission control to triangle being attempted and you woulda saw how he locked up that triangle that finished the match from the butterfly guard.Walk into tenth planent then walk into a gracie or machado school and you will see a big difference....Bravo dose nothing that they do.He tanks all the Gracies and JJ Machado for there help and hard work but he has transcended them completely.Pick up Jiu-Jitsu Unleashed you will have a new apperication for the guy.

I know thats what Rogans doing but he goes way over board.
The match with Royler was a triangle from the guard, I saw it many times and watched it over and over is super slow motion to see how he caught Royler. Bravo just basically grabbed Roylers arm and extended it so he could get his leg under it and apply the triangle. It was a good move, but one Royler never should have fallen for. I dont see where he " made a move he never practiced". He doesnt practice setting up a triangle?? I dont understand what you mean. There wasnt anything odd about it. He had his hips high and was waiting for a mistake and siezed it when it came (or he created it). What was odd was Bravo won by submission, he usually likes to get a couple points and then just hold position. On top of that, Bravo ran around the mat with his arms up screaming and yelling like he won the lottery or something, totally unsportsmanlike and classless in my opinion. What a dicck. How many Gracies act like that when they win a match !!!!
Send me the DVD and Ill check it out and send it back if you want

Dude it was a sweep from half guard not the triangle.Bravo stated many times and if you saw the whole vid it was set up from the butterfly guard. Also Bravo stated that in the early days he was very timid in comp....in the later days he was not.....only in the final match of the abu dhabi qualifiers did he hold on for dear life and he admits it.Bravo now trys and works for subs from setups he made up on his own bro.....trust me get the book its excellent.O and dude you dont understand the pressure Bravo was under in that tourney and subing Royler was the crown achivement dude you really dont understand what the man is all about....if you spent 10 long hard years trying to develop a NO-GI grappling system and then trying to prove to the close minded gi jiu-jitsu world then submitting the man who when he entered every tourney he was in he dominated....i would be crying and running laps too....is it unsportmanlike in the olypics when runners or swimmers raise there hands or cry??? i think not.

Err, no. I've just recently watched that match a few times. Eddie starts the match by taking one knee, Royler gets bored and engages with him and passes his guard almost immediately. Eddie repeatedly regains and loses half guard, and eventually sweeps Royler from the half guard. Royler then sweeps Eddie back.
Eddie then secures and overhook and works his leg on that side high on Royler's back, similar to a position he calls "New York," but people from New York who were acquanted with Shawn Williams called the "Williams guard," and gets the triangle in the standard way from there. It was very nicely done.
I own his book, Jiu jitsu Unleashed, but train under students of Renzo Gracie. Eddie teaches some interesting stuff; as many will tell you, most of what he's famous for is not innovation, but adaptation. The "twister" comes from wrestling, as does the "banana split" from that position, but it is certainly true that no one in submission grappling was making use of the wrestler's guillotine and its extensive possibilities before Mr. Bravo showed the way. That's certainly a very real contribution to the grappling community. His rubber guard is interesting, and parts of it are spreading through out the grappling community. Not all of it is original (see the Williams guard aka New York for an example).
So Bravo haters and worshippers should all chill out. Yeah, Bravo's basically been an ass about beating Royler, and his anti-gracie gi-is-the-devil rhetoric can get annoying. But he's a great grappler, he wrote a great book, and I'm sure he'll produce strong students. He has a fantastic example to follow in his teacher, J.J. Machado.

He's only half right.
He's right that if your goal is to only compete in no gi environments, such as submission grappling or mma, there's no need for you to train in the gi, and while gi work won't be useless, any time you're using it you'd probably make a better use of your time training no gi.
He's wrong in his sweeping claims, as exemplified in his book Jiu Jitsu Unleashed, that the problems jiu jitsu players are having today in mma are due to a reliance on the gi. I would challenge him or anyone to find an mma fighter in any serious organization who trains primarily in gi grappling. They all have practice working their guards without the gi, and excel in it; and yet bjj still isn't the king of mma that it once was (and that I wish it still was). So the issue surely isn't that gi is ruining jiu jitsu players in mma; it seems obvious that there are skills you can develop from the top of guard once striking is allowed that can make winning from the bottom difficult for even top bjj players, and no easy answer for this problem exists.

very true....however i see where he comes from....these guys train no-gi sure...but they spent most of their time with the gi and they have to break bad habbits which is very true. There are guys like Nog who use their guards excellent but Nog is not a traditional BJJ guy he is all about MMA and NO-GI....he may of trained with the gi but his no-gi is what hes all about and it translates excellently to MMA.
