  • Grapplers or Strikers (not what you think)

I was curious about something. Since this is a MMA board, and most do both grappling and striking...
    I was wondering.

Who considers themselves more a striker, and who considers themselves more a grappler?

I can punch, but I'm definately more of a grappler

Well I see me as a ground striker whit a good defense on my feet and whit a good explosion for a throw. But I'm a grappler in my mind I like to put on submission but my ground striking is more affective.

I'm mainly a striker (I've been doing it longer), and I rely mostly on kicks (to take out the legs, or jam someone and open up the defense. My punches aren't powerful enough to put someone down, but my kicks can do a good job of softening them up, though.

I'm very new to grappling, so I'm still learning how not to give up a submission, or G & P so easily. I has given me more confidence to move into the clinching range, and work more on my punches, because I'm not as afraid to go to the ground. I still prefer the strikes, but I'm pickin' up some submissions and escapes. I've also been learning some wrestling, but It's gonna be a while before I start using the suplex, or slams. I'll just rely on the double and single legs. I also would like to learn some judo style (or Shuai Chaio - chinese wrestling) throws to sharpen up some of the takedowns I've learned in Shaolin and Praying Mantis.

I'd consider ground striker a grappler in my opinion.
I do the same, putting headbutts, etc. in different osaekomiwaza positions.

Definitely I'm a striker, actually I study grappling because is my main weakness; I'm very quick with hands and I have a very powerful leg kick, but I'm tall and not so heavy, so I have a hard time either with takedowns and defending it, once on the ground I'm able to reverse and sweep, and I hold the mount pretty well, but I need to work as crazy on takedowns.

Although I have decent striking skills, I go with what works and consider myself a grappler....

                  grappler who can punch.

I can't kick all that well but I think it's the least important thing, IMO.

I typically would rather stand up and fight, but I feel equally comfortable on the ground. My logic is that most people who would start sh!t with me are probably going to be bigger than me (which isn't hard) so I would rather pick them apart on my feet where they can't use their strength to control me and I can use my mobility better.

Myself, I'm 0% striker and 100% grappler. I hope to change that some day, though.

Standup, unless I am losing or taken down. Then I go where the fight goes.Or where I feel he is weakest.
