  • Crossface in rolling?

Well I was watching some Pride fights the other day and I noticed Kevin Randleman would often put his forearm on his opponents face when on top to distract them to setup subs. Ive heard people mention it on the forums lots of times, but up til now I actually thought it meant the North-south position. I dont think Ive seen it in my class, but do your schools let you crossface each other when your roll? From watching Randleman pile all his weight on some poor guys face it seems like it must hurt like a b!tch. Also, when you stack people during rolling is it ok to put all your weight on them or is it bad etiquette. I personally have only been grappling like 4 monthes, taking a few weeks off here and there for various reasons, so Im definitely a beginner on the ground. So any answers are appreciated.

    A crossface is very basic.

yeah I realize that now but my gym is very casual. When I signed up its not like the instructor just handed me a glossary with colour pictures of people performing the crossface. Ive mostly been picking up the terms of grappling as I go along, and have been reading some articles and bjj books which have helped me out alot. I understand that from where your point of view it must seem strange because you have alot of experience and this stuff has probably become second nature to you. It really would be more helpful though if someone would answer my original questions, I know you may have the urge but try to keep the sarcasm at a low level.

When you stack the people... use your weight as much as you want... as much as you need to, to get whatever you want done... the 250 pounders put all their weight on me... so when I fight a 140, 150, 160, I'm putting all my weight on them.. just the way the world works...

As for the cross face... one chick once freaked out on me for doing it from side mount .. ( wasnt aware I was doing it)... never got complaints after though.. although I havent been doing it conciously.. so... why not try it and if you get complaints stop.

i used the cross face alot in wrestling, basically your punching them in the nose without punching them. i remember getting crossfaced so hard that my face was covered in blood, and basically ruined the straight line my nose use to be in. i also could have done without the cualiyflower ear as well, my ear now looks retarted, but without that kind of training, your basically a pussy. for something like the bjj stuff i would think it to be all right if you put your wrist on the side of there face. just having it there will become habit. now it probably wouldnt be a good idea to actually do it because someone would complain like a little bitch. and thats where you need to find someone to practice with that isnt such a girl about it. and thats the problem with martial arts training no one gets punched in the face or really hurt by punching or kicking, its always joint locks. and if its something like tkd you always have protective gear on. if you cant take a punch and your in a fight your going to go down. and not even your tap out moves will work because when someones punching you in the nose your gonna feel it.

Cross facing is a good. I use it a lot when I am in the half guard top position. You can use it to set up escapes, chokes, kimura, americana, and taking the back. Just dont do it when youre in the guard. You will get armbared or triangled. Try experimenting with a partner, and use it how it suits you best.

I heard other people use it a lot when he or she is in the half guard top position too.
No I don't think I can do use it to set up escapes chokes kimura americana and taking the back.Ok I'll try not to do do it when you are in the guard too much. What makes you say that I will get armbared or triangled.OK I will try it.
