Eight years ago when I made this post I was the instructor at a small jiu-jitsu club. I noticed that many of my new students had either zero knowledge about martial arts, or bad knowledge they had picked up from television and hearsay.

Remember this was back before every home had internet access. Back then, most people got MA info from bad television programs and fluffy magazines.

I was looking for a fun way to get them up to speed.

Not that it matters now, but I'm curious. Did it help?

For my new students 16-18 years of age, it was fun and it did help bring up good questions for discussion and further study.

Some of you younger guys may not appreciate how the internet has changed the world for the better. Back in the 70's, 80's, and early 90's bullshido artists and chop-sockey nonsense peddlers could operate profitably without fear of exposure and contradiction.

They comprised a much greater percentage of martial arts instructors than they do now.
