He was unused to BJJ at the time he fought Penn, didn't mean he was an inferior grappler... submissions are only a part of grappling... important... yes... in and of themselves they are useless. I would say with complete confidence that there are significantly better grapplers in the NCAA champs than in the BJJ world champs... and then even more so in the olympics. I would say he is definitly a superior grappler to both Penn and Gracie. He has all of the other tools, which is why his sub. grappling game has improved exponentially... so you're comparison is irrelevant.
