  • The Wrasslin' Thread

I started this thread to collect a list of wrestling techniques from any style and any country. Any style is welcome, even those who don't train but have street wrestled are certainly welcome.

There's probably a collective experience of about 100 years worth of wrestling from just a hand full of members.

One of my favorite set ups is getting into a rough collar & elbow lock-up, change levels, pop up the elbow and shoot for a really tight duck under.

Your opponents closest arm to you is high and akward and you can do a couple of different takedowns. For example you can spin around to get his back and do a suplex or souplet.

Would love to hear from others!

Hmmm I like the collar and elbow clinch then step to the right so you get an angle and shooting in for an ankle pick on the far leg. Also the cattle catcher pancake into side mount is a good transition into an armbar.

When things get ruffhouse, I like to pile drive. You can pile drive with any throw. Just launch yourself into it and let your enemy break your fall. Be sure to throw all of your body weight into it. The ground does all of the rest.

Not meant to be done on a friend or someone you like.

I'm not a huge wrestler, I enjoy grappling a bit more but I have some favored wrestling techniques:

I think that one of my favorites is the duck under. I do this when I have an underhook, and overhook, wrist control, or if my opponent has wrist control. When your opponent has wrist control he usually feels safe, but if you can get his arm close and relatively high, and squeeze under it with a smooth duck under, he will usually be taken by surprise.

Ok, this is pretty basic, but my 'favorite' is still the lateral drop. Work in to an over/under (how you get there is an issue in itself) and, depending on how you read your opponent, either drive forward like you are trying muscle him, or keep backing up like you are trying to bail from the tie, then its feet in and liftoff! I like the fact that you kind of have to sucker him into position and then to pull it off you have to commit 100%. No half-assing it, and if you time it wrong or he sees what you're up to, you're gonna end up flat on your back!

I like simple moves the most. My favourite wrestling move is the arm drag. Simple but incredibly effective.

                arm drag, go-behind takedown.

If you can get back there there's no sprawling and you're on the opponent's back, from where you can transition to a lot of different things.

I think I saw a UFC where someone tried to pull it off, but ended up falling backward, landing on their own head and getting KOd.

You need the guy to push back, don't you?

The person you're trying to pile-drive (or power bomb) has to be somewhat slouched over, right? The technique seems like its pure upper body strength, but I could be wrong. You could muscle it I suppose so long as you're the kind of dude that can dead lift 315 for reps...

I'm thinking someone shooting in and you sprawl or trying to tackle and you snap their head down.

That helps, but as long as you get him moving in the direction you eventually want to throw him you can pull it off. But if you don't time it out just right you are screwed! That's what makes it fun!

It's a suprise move when things with uke/tori get out of hand. It's just any throw where you go down with your uke and suprise him by landing on him letting him break your fall while he is pile drived into the mat. Really, if you have any military training just look at it as an AMBUSH!!!
