Biting an opponent in a street fight is not bad. I will do it if I need to. It may sound yucky but according to one Filipino Master bite the nipple area because that is one part of the body that will hurt the most. Try biting the tricep are of the arm as well. eye gouging and fish hooking will apply too.

Duchman is correct, dont wait for them to tap just break it. If you will be in that situation they will not either wait for you to tap out.

    break break break!!!

Street grappling would have to be agressive and brutal and be mixed with striking/dirty attacks (gouging, groin attacks, ect...). If I were in the street I would be going for a quick/simple throw to a dominant and mobile position to a quick/simple submission.

      For instance:
Osoto-gari > Knee on belly > Strait armbar (assuming I was using only grappling in this instance).

Obviously in the street it isn't logical to pull guard or dive for a flying kneebar.
Excellent post Dan, and I totally agree. For me, grappling in a real self defense situation would stress position, where I could either control my attacker or strike him until he was under control, but where I could also be in a position to retaliate if another assailant approaches me.

When we work technique in class, I always try to think of my striking opportunities and what I could do, and my opponent could do to me, if there were no rules. Of course you can't and wouldn't do that to your partner, but its good to keep those things in mind, and train striking while on the ground with focus mits, heavy bag on the ground, etc.

I think BJJ and MMA in general train excellent attributes to prepare you for a real confrontation, but keep in mind the things that the rules don't allow you or your partner to do.

in any 1 vs multiple attackers scenario, you must go for the strongest person first. If you dont, then you will be done. By taking out the strongest/best fighter, you then increase the chances of you successfully defeating whoever is left(the weaker opponents.) Since your first strikes have to be devasting, i recommend elbows and knees. You have to understand that your going to get hurt but if your will is strong, you should be ok. Its ok if they hurt you, you just dont want to be defeated. Since after making the intial contact with the first opponent, things are going to get crowded real fast as his buddy/buddies try to intervene and help, and the elbow knee selection will work well in close quarters. Just my opinion.

I saw a guy at the beach, who was laying out in the sun and these rugby players kept running by him and kicking sand in his face by accident. He told them to stop and the next play they ran by him and kicked sand in his face again, lol, so he grabbed one of the guys legs and tripped him as they ran by. There was at least 12 rugby guys, very big built dudes, and 6 or 8 of the biggest guys, not even the guy that got tripped surrounded this poor guy (5'11 190 built). the biggest guy was blonde and no joke at least 6 4 and 260lbs, like hulk hogan. Well, the guy that was minding his business did exactly what we all hear about and hit the biggest guy right in the jaw so fucking hard BLAM, the blonde guy wobbles backwards holding his face and drops to his knees. Then the 7 other guys try and grab the guy and thier throwing blows hard and with bad intentions. Finally this big asain guy gets the dude by the wrists and is holding his arms while another is behind him in a bear hug. The asian guy head butts the dude and that pretty much ended it., the dude walked away telling those guys theyre a bunch of fucking pussies and he'd fight them all one by one right now. As he walked by i told the guy good job and as the rugby guys came my way i almost told them they were asholes and pussys but then thought better of it. The big blonde during the whole ordeal was still sitting on his knees holding his face , he never even looked up to see what was happening around him.
I later saw the guy that faught them at a bicycle shop were he worked and the old guy that works with him said " oh yeah, ole jonny here can really tussle". I said yeah he did good
