Does matt Hughes, in light of what the Gracies have done to the world of MMA inthe last 15 years, even equal one of Helios farts?
I mean, more guys have accidently smelled Helios farts when training and not training with the old corpse than have learned ANYTHING from "the greatest welterweight ever ' LOL. I think Matt is equal, almost, to a slippery pass of the undigested gastric gases from Helio, just about one of those at best. Royce has tapped to one of those before, and Matt couldnt tap Royce.

I completely agree, Matt Hughes is one of the greatest fighters in the world today. If you cannot respect that as plain fact, then you should really not be posting on these boards.

Helio Gracie is an undisputed legend, but they both appeared in different periods of martial arts. Helio triggered a transition, and matt hughes is a dominant athlete in the current form of mixed martial arts.

Does he need a belt? I haven't noticed that he has a problem with his pants falling down. Black belts are great if you're wearing black shoes, but today I'm sporting a brown belt on account of my brown shoes... then again I like to look dapper and I know what belts are for, go figure

Will you get over it already...BJJ is not the end all be all and the Gracie's are not gods. Christ it's shameful that the western world has lost it's ability to compete and lose with dignity. You should have great respect for Matt Hughes for fighting and beating a legend...and people who are not a fan of the Gracies should have gained tremendous respect for Royce for stepping into the ring at his age and giving a younger stronger fighter the opportunity to take his crown. There are many who wouldn't...countless champions in the world of sport have left early so that they could go out on top.

I enjoy MMA because it's pure...it's man against man with minimal outside interference and what I want to see is the man who fights best that night win. Phuck allegiances to styles or personalities...of course we're all going to have fighters that we hope win but I'm not going to make a fool of myself by making excuses for them afterwards or bashing the winner for whatever reason I can find.

If you're unable to accept defeat with dignity and humility you're not a champion and you don't deserve an ounce of respect.

Omaplata, you can't expect Royce Gracie to win every fight. Everyone loses. That's a part of what makes them great and legends. Acceptance towards loss is the great step towards winning. As long as you don't quit, you've won. Who cares what the referee saids.

Your right he doesnt have a white belt under him... he does however have a welterweight championship belt around him...

Matt Hughes was the welterweight champion before he started practicing Jiu Jitsu (note his slamming to get out of triangle chokes when fighting the champion when he won the belt). He is a wrestler first and foremost.

Second of all, if Matt is one of Helio's farts, how come he could beat one of Helio's sons... a son is more of a person than a fart is. Explain that to me.

Interesting point Oma, a guy with NO belt in anything had to be pulled off Royce before he beat his brains in...so what did he need a belt for? Perhaps to make a sling to carry off Royce's limp body?
