Having trained in both MT and Boxing (More MT though) I found that it is not a necessarily a different way of punching just more a different mindset. The punching techniques in MT generally are the same as Boxing.
Obviously with more striking options being available in MT there is more to consider, this changes the way you approach the fight, how you defend, the way you setup combos and that is what I think J-Luck is trying to get across here. I don't think he was knocking MT in any way at all. In fact I think he agreed with it's strengths, however, his point is valid that the approach is different and that if you compare two equally experienced fighter (Boxer vs. MT) then the Boxer should have more refined punching technique.
Also for the original question, train in both Boxing and MT if you can. There is so much to take away from both "styles" that really you have nothing to lose by finding a school that will teach you both. Much the same as with grappling you want to make sure your opponent is not going to hit you with something you have never had to deal with before. If you train in both styles you will be prepared to fight against both style of fighter as well as use the strengths of both styles.
Wow, that turned into a Novel with a quickness... Hope that helps JayJayShap. Train hard...
