In Thailand where most often training scenarios feature fighters who literally look like they've been drug thru the Ocean due to the humidity and to a lesser extent, North Carolina where the humidity makes more than a few visitors stay inside for the duration of their visits, bitching about sweat while practicing MT is fukkin ridiculous.
I admit, had I realized I would be sweating to the point of distracting anyone I would have brought towels, wore long sleeves and excused myself to shower every 15 minutes but due to the fact I've lived in Okinawa, the Phillipines(both for under a year) and NC(my whole life), and have played sports or practiced various martial arts the whole time I was a bit surprised at her reaction.
Next time I go to practice intent on getting a good workout and pushing myself I will keep in mind that I might be working with someone different from myself and bring a change of clothes, towels, body spray, talcum powder, baby powder, soap, a portable self contained living shell(like the boy in the bubble ... y'all are too young to remember that) ... better yet, if I see I'm workin with someone like that I'll just pack up and leave.
It actually has played a part in me losing enthusiasm for training there again. Of course, I will continue since it's the best place to train in Charlotte but I probably will opt out of working with her in training anymore if I can without subjecting her to any embarassment or discomfort. It did bother me as you can see by this god-awfully long monologue about the incident. Sorry. Just discussing ....
Here's something to do...shower really well, and douse yourself with cologne before class when you know your going to spar with her. But over do it. Like, gagging, chemical smell. And shave three days before so you have stubble...and when you clinche with her, make sure to nuzzle up real good so it feels like sandpaper. She'll never complain about the sweat again.
Have to add though, she's a nice girl and all ... with the exception of this incident. It irked me.
Y'all are crazy though, hahaha. Later. Time to get up and go watch over Charlotte's incarcerated citizens.
Come on, admit it . . . there are some disgusting SOBs out there. Hygeine is important and some guys don't respect themselves or their partners enough to take care of their personal cleanliness. It sucks, so don't train with those guys unless you have no other choice.
The academy in Barra, Rio is er... 'hardcore'. Where the jigsaw mats are broken the 2 inch holes are full of curly little hairs . As you're rolling you have to be careful not to inhale the odd hairball that's rolling by. The mats have never been cleaned and 90% of the guys never wash their gi's. I'm not kiddin' - most guys just hang them out on the balcony to dry for the next class. The past twelve months have seen a lot of building work in the 'Byfit' gym that the academy is based in, so you can add brick dust into the equation too.
It's lucky that you can see (and train with) so much talent, otherwise it would be pointless training there. As it stands, it's worth it IMHO, but just use a decent soap
I was talking to a friend who trained in Manaus (sp??) for awhile and . . . lets just say that a few short and curlies and/or a fungus here and there were the least of his worries.

my masters master, nelson montiero, an OG barra guy, sometimes would wear socks when it was a cold night on the mats, but maybe that was just a bad habit from the old days to keep his feet clean ? or, as rumor had it, he was covering up his toe polish
