  • The Executioner Sells His Soul

Middleweight champion Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins has inked a deal with Don King that will put him in a tournament that will unify the title. Hopkins will face Keith Holmes to unify one half of the title and William Joppy will fight Felix Trinidad for the other title. With the winners to face each other and the winner of that fight to face Roy Jones Jr.

Under most circumstances I would be fearful for Hopkins knowing how King has screwed fighters in the past, but with former HBO boxing head Lou DiBella advising him he should be alright. Hopkins is the least appreciated and most skilled champion out there. He is a throwback fighter who can do it all in the ring. I am very glad he will be able to secure his place in history by unifying the title. This man has more defenses of the middleweight title than anyone other than Carlos Monzon. He truly deserves the big paydays that await him. Its just sad he had to sign with Don King to get the fights he deserves. Thats where a federal boxing commission would do alot of good. But thats another thread entirely.

Here is my prediction and I am the first one to say it. Trinidad loses to William Joppy and Hopkins beats Holmes. Then Hopkins goes on to stop Joppy to unify the Middleweight crown and secures his place in history.

I have been a fan of Hopkins since 92 when I first saw him ko Dennis Milton on ESPN and watched all of his fights since. He has been put in with rough awkward fighters his past 4 or 5 fights. Robert Allen is a punk who has always resorted to being dirty when things got rough. All the way back to his amateur days when he was fighting Raul Marquez 5 or 6 times a year. Antwun Echols is just a rough hard hitting fighter. What alot of people consider dirty is just old fashioned boxing. Spinning guys and hitting them is one of the most skillful things you can do. Its not his fault the guys are off balance and he gets behind them and pops them. Hopkins truly is the total package,he has amazing boxing skills, great power and is the best counter puncher in the game this side of James Toney. He is such a pleasure to watch. I record all of his fights, right now he is my second favorite fighter in the world next to the aforementioned Toney. Anyway I can see how people would tend to think he is dirty. But he's not,he's just an old fashioned Philly fighter in the mold of the other great Philadelphia middleweights like "Bad"Bennie Brisco,Bobby "Boogaloo"Watts and Willie "The Worm" Monroe.

              Hopkins

I cant beleive he signed with Don King but i guess he needed to do it for the money and to get his unification bouts. Its a shame that you cant force people to fight the best fighters and its all about money. I read in the news paper that Prince Nasseem said of Mayweather why should i fight him when i can make alot of money fighting nobodys. Hopkins should have had his unification shot a long time ago. As for Trinidad possibly fighting Roy Jones Trinidad would get ko'd.

I remember that a long time ago, Don King was nailed for something like Murder or manslaughter?
What did he get convicted of?

I think that Don King is the King of sleazes.

King was convicted in 1966 of manslaughter for stomping a man to death over a numbers debt. The man he stomped to death was 5'8 130 lbs. mind you King is 6'5 240 so it didnt take alot of stomping. Call him what you want but he is one of the if not the greatest promoter of all time.

I hate to hear this. Anything King is involved in gets murky real quick. The Lewis-Holyfield draw- Trinidad's "victory" over Delahoya, and a lot of others.
                      Hope Hopkins watches his back.

                        Same 'ting!

A Joppy vs Hopkins final would be great. I hate to pick a winner.

You support a fight where you support King ! - ( ie; Sharmba vs Kostya).

Did you know that the only reason King let him fight Kostya.... was because Sharmba was trying to get out of his deal with King a few months back !!??

There is no way otherwise Big Bird. He would never have let the fight happen !

King won today......he didn't get Kostya totally but he ridded himself of the guy who was about to dump him !

Yeah, in pre-fight, King mouthed off supporting Sharmba......but we all know how much that mean;t !

Lets get this straight do you really think King gives a damn about either Tsyzu or Mitchell? I mean Tszyu has NO FOLLOWING in the US. Look in the crowd tonight, alot of empty seats huh? I wish you would pull your head out of your ass and put down the crack pipe and realize that Tszyu is nothing special. You feel some loyalty to a so called "aussie" newsflash he is Russian.

I will ask you these questions again because you still havent answered them. Tell me why those straight lefts were bouncing off Tsyzu's head? Kostya was hurt a few times by someone who is not a hard puncher and dont tell me Sharmba hits harder or is quicker than Zab. Why cant such a great fighter such as Kostya put away a one legged fighter? If that was a young Chavez out there how long would Mitchell have lasted? I mean he couldnt even drop him. Why are you so impressed with this fight? Mitchell's prime was about 5 years ago as a LIGHTWEIGHT. Just add it to the list of old fighters Tszyu has beaten.

BIG BIRD THE ROCK APE RAPIST!

Then i hope that Jr would do great foot work whit a lot of combo but NO! man the fight was maybe even more boring.
