Middleweight champion Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins has inked a deal with Don King that will put him in a tournament that will unify the title. Hopkins will face Keith Holmes to unify one half of the title and William Joppy will fight Felix Trinidad for the other title. With the winners to face each other and the winner of that fight to face Roy Jones Jr.
Under most circumstances I would be fearful for Hopkins knowing how King has screwed fighters in the past, but with former HBO boxing head Lou DiBella advising him he should be alright. Hopkins is the least appreciated and most skilled champion out there. He is a throwback fighter who can do it all in the ring. I am very glad he will be able to secure his place in history by unifying the title. This man has more defenses of the middleweight title than anyone other than Carlos Monzon. He truly deserves the big paydays that await him. Its just sad he had to sign with Don King to get the fights he deserves. Thats where a federal boxing commission would do alot of good. But thats another thread entirely.
Here is my prediction and I am the first one to say it. Trinidad loses to William Joppy and Hopkins beats Holmes. Then Hopkins goes on to stop Joppy to unify the Middleweight crown and secures his place in history.
