Winner of the fight
I have been reading the posts for awhile of how Matt Hughes was owned. I guess we weren't watching the same fight.
In the first round Matt went in for a single leg repeatedly, but didn't he succeed in the takedown. He was consistently working BJ's leg. He took a few shots but nothing terribly damaging.
In the second round back to trying the takedown and again takes a few shots. At this point anyone who has spent a lot of time wrestling can tell you it takes a pretty serious toll on your leg to be constantly fighting a single leg takedown(fatigue and soreness are likely to be setting in). They go to the ground BJ gets on top and gets a leg lock around Matt's neck, but he doesn't have the strength to finish him off, could this have to due with the prior straining against the single leg? In the last 30 seconds of the match Matt is still struggling against the hold and appears to be backing out of the hold as BJ seems to be losing the ability to hold his lock. The round ends and BJ has difficultly walking back to his corner. His legs are looking real weak.
The third round starts and BJ is not doing much of anything to defend himself and takes a solid kick to the leg. Matt takes him down and proceeds to pummel him. The match is stopped because BJ is unable to defend himself.
This was not a beautiful BJJ match but it looked like Matt had a game plan of working BJs legs and stuck to the plan. The result is that Matt won and BJ lost.

He looked pretty vulnerable to me at all aspects.

People should forget the whole eye poke part of the fight. It is irrelevant. First, it was accidental on BJ's part. It's hard enough to land a punch on a moving target...do you think BJ is so precise that he can land his thumb perfectly on a moving eyeball? Second, Matt is a big boy. He had the option of resting until he felt ready to fight. Obviously since he chose to continue when he did, he got over it.
Bottom line for me, is that BJ is by far a better fighter on his feet and on the ground. I was rooting for him the whole time, but with that said, Hughes earned his well deserved win. It's a sport, and Hughes was the far better athlete that night.
