The Inosanto crowd tried to compete with BJJ but were light years from it so the finally started training with the Machados.

Yori Nakamura one of the founders of Shooto came to the states to train in JKD under Inosanto. After he got here and started training with Guro Dan he ended up showing some Shooto ground work and that was about the time Erikl started working with him. And as a former Shooto world champ I'd say Erik is world class and he Dan Inosanto was and still is one of his trainers.
Shoot Wrestling comes strait out of Japanese prowrestling. What a bunch of jokers. I remember Yori and Satoru with the Mask.

Rigan taught at Rorions school. When he left to open his own Rorion sent Rickson to beat him up. Rickson said Rigan could open his own school. Rorion then sent Royce. Rigan met Chuck after he was here. Chuck helped him get his citizenship. I heard this information from students that were training with Rigan at the time not from an internet search. Dufus.

The only people who stayed were the famehounds and groupies. The quality of grappling is very low by Brazilian standards.

I can tell by your name dropping, that list fame before skill, that you are a poor judge of skill. Everyone with a bit of sense can see the Royce Gracie is a bad example of BJJ.
You asked what experience I had to judge an instructor, I listed guys I've trained with to substantiate this, including the 4 months I trained full time in Brazil (did u not manage to read all of the post, or are you simply forgetful?).

I suspect that all your posturing & arguing are nothing more than the feeble attempts of yet another keyboard warrior, who can't accept when others prove him wrong. I'll not be feeding this little girlie troll anymore.

So you heard it from second hand information and not from Rigan himself . . . as I did. Jackass.

Rigan doesn't talk to Rorion much but he has ABSOLUTELY zero bad feelings for him, he just doesn't talk to him much. He is close friends with Royce and Rickson and talks to them regularly. And Rorion NEVER sent Rickson or Royce to beat up Rigan, that is a complete bunch of BULLSHIT.

Shooto was used by Japanes Pro Wrestlers but its history actually dates back to Karl Gotch and Catch as Catch can style of fighting that was popular here in the states and in Western Europe into the 1930s before it morphed into what we now call professional wrestling. The techniques are for real. Shooto is essentially a blend of Catch and Muay Thai.

And so what if Yori ever did some pro wrestling???? A man has a right to make a living anyway he can . . . oh, and in case you are mistaken and believe that the Shooto/Catch blend doesn't work in MMA maybe you've never heard of this guy called Josh Barnett, or of the two trainers he has worked with the most consistently Matt Hume and Erik Paulson (who both held titles of their own). Hume is a "Pancration" guy but "Pancration" as he defines it is related to the Japanese Pancrase organization which was a spin off of Shooto.

We can go on here . . . but hopefully you get the point.

Rebiu, Erik was training in JKD before he started training in BJJ ( I believe) he basically lived with Larry Hartsell for 8-9 years while training with him and Dan Inosanto. He is an instructor under both Dan and Larry in JKD not to mention the fact that he is full instructor(coach) under Yori Nakamura in Shooto. Just as someone else has already said he was the first non-asian to go into Japan and win the Shoot Lightheavy weight Championship. He remained undefeated for 5 years and you are going to say that he sucks. You are freaking nuts dude. Erik has helped alot of fighters become better fighters including Randy Coture who went to Erik to improve his striking game.

Rebiu, I think your problem is that someone is actually asking about someone that is not a bjj guy...and they are asking about a system that is not bjj. You are nothing more than another one of these freaking trolls that worships at the alter of bjj. While bjj is good it is not the end all system when it comes to fighting. I am a purple belt in bjj and believe the art is very effective however there are alot of weakness in the art as well.

So take Mikes advice and hang it up now before you get your ass kicked again by DJ Coldfusion. He definately knows his stuff when it comes to bjj and the history of it. So go sit in the corner and lick your wounds you freaking moron and stop while your still breathing.

Oh yeah one more thing. You mentioned Dan not being a real black belt in bjj. Just to let you know what kind of man Dan Inosanto is...when he went to the Machados to start training he showed up with a white belt! Mr. Machado told him that he did not have to start out as a white belt because of his background and because of who he was...but Dan showed more humility than probably anyone else would have and said he wanted to learn the system starting as a beginner.
