I couldn't see the UFC but based on everybody's descriptions, Tito's antics were definitely in very poor taste.
Rock Ape is right about American athletes being rude and arrogant toward opponents. Tito exemplifies this behavior with all the other of his "end-zone" celebrations and T-shirts.
What's funny is how I keep reading in interviews with Tito and he says he wants to be a role model for young kids because he knows kids look up to athletes. What's with the grave-digging then?
I was starting to like him too, but if he keeps this up, he'll lose a lot of fans.
"Living is easy with eyes closed,
Misunderstanding all you see,
Its getting hard to be someone but it all works out,
It doesn't matter much to me..." - Lennon, John
I don't feel Tito meant anything by the grave digging. I certainly don't feel he wanted Tanner hurt. Different people have different psyche up strategies. Tito gets cocky IMO so he'll have to live up to it and he usually does. The one person he was semi-intimidated by was Frank Shamrock and he wasn't as cocky as usual. Although he fought an awesome fight that night, it wasn't the win or die Tito that beat Silva. The grave digging IMO was the product of Tito's psyche job on himself.

There is a picture of Tito standing next to Sak. The size and weight difference aren't even close. Tito is alot larger and looks about 40-50 lbs heavier than Sak.
The picture speaks a thousand words.
I agree that the arrogant celebrations of some (American) athlete's is annoying. However I don't think the europeans or the south americans are anyone to critique us considering how many of their sporting events have turned into mass riots, with people losing their lives. Aside from the extreme antics of guys like Tito, most celebrations are on par with the celebrations following a goal in soccer/futbol, that stupid airplane or shirt over the head crap. Speaking of which, if you were a goaltender or fullback and the guy just scored on you, then pulls his shirt over his head wouldn't you just run up and crack him in the face??

2 people actually left the room to vomit? Seriously?
Man, I hope you don't have The Learning Channel at your house, the ER Dramas would probably cause some serious reactions.
I've not seen the fight yet, but I think taunting a downed opponent is pretty classless. We've seen it before, Tank's mocking his opponent's "posturing";
Laying a shirt over a downed opponent like a shroud; and now this. It's classless, but definitely not worth banning someone over. It won't happen, mainly becuase the guy is a huge draw. Can you say $?
As far as the US sportsmanship, I agree to a degree, but disagree as well. The "thugery" happens in sports where you can't "police your own". In soccer, if you do something stupid, you can bet that you'll get yours while noone is looking (large field, few officials). In hockey, it's just a given.
However, we americans DO have the upperhand as far as fans are concerned. When's the last time you saw a riot at an NBA game? Or seen "urine bombs" lobbed onto the field at Wrigley?
Tito looks at least 30 lbs heavier than Sak. I think Pride has same-day weigh-ins, so it should not make a difference.
Concerning Americans versus foreigners and disrespecting behavior, Rock Ape's point was more about conceit and arrogance that's displayed, which you don't usually find with non-Americans.
I agree with that. I was embarassed at how some of our athletes behaved in Sidney and they were rightly booed for it.
