If they had half a brain it would give them a sense of humility...

TCMA can work in a street altercation and far more than the way you think it would.

                History has proven it.

There are rugby players I've met that work as doorman to support themselves as amateur players. You don't necessarily need to know much martial arts to land a solid punch, especially when you weigh 200 lbs (no not talking about myself). Talking of which I rate experienced doorman above most martial artists sportive or otherwise in the world of real violence.
That said those are the larger people in society so their approach isn't going work for everyone.

The thread began by discussing fighting in the context of two persons squared off settling a dispute like neanderthals. Fighting in that context isn't self defense, it's the behavior exhibited by assholes who are the problem in the first place.

Maybe you should go and play their game. You could show them your sprawl against a full on tackle at full speed.

i agree with the general consensus, it's probably 50/50 chance either way. better to see a pair of specific fighters in action and then guess who will win. it's not about the name of the style it's about the quality of the man

Yes, the way I claim it would is based upon traditional Kung Fu from many systems, sich as hung gar Choy Li Fut mantis, Northern Shaolin etc etc. i teach Kung Fu and i have been taught proper traditional aspects of the forms.

Why don't you tell us all about the mob attacks and the time you diffused a situation where two guys had knives, etc.

                            Who stands a better chance?

Fighting starts in the mind of a person, like in boxing, you can lose the fight before you step into the ring. The truth is, an explosive athlete has the advantage, mostly due to competitive egos and knowing they have explosive muscles.

On the other hand if a traditional martial artist has the proper experience, skill level and mindset in the situation... I seriously feel bad for the athlete cause he has no idea whats about to happen to him.

Practice having the right mindset more than you do physical training.

Living in South Africa (land of the Springboks) and having a rugby mad
culture, I have alot of rugby players come into the gym.
They are way tougher and more explosive then the regular folks
and the regular folks will often avoid them during training so they don't
                              get manhandled

also in a street fight I would put my money on a rugby player vs a traditional martial artist any day
