Mayweather, after his fight, actually apologized to the UFC and MMA fans all over. He basically implied that he just made those comments to hype his fight with Oscar. He also said he had no plans to fights in mixed martial arts.
Mayweather is good in my book.... but Lampley is an arrogant ignoramous.

      lampley

Lampley is just trying to protect his cash cow, which is boxing. There are guys who do things on the ground, that are equally as skillfull as what they do with their hands. Royce Gracie beating guys who have 100lbs on him!!

I would love to see Lampley's face if mayweather decided to fight in the UFC and got his ass handed to him.

Why did Mayweather talk smack about the UFC? Do we ever hear MMA competitors talking smack about boxers?? No, gee I wonder why?? (The journo who penned the article is also deeply ignorant of what MMA is as well).

Why talk the talk if you are never going to walk the walk? As stupid as Mayweathers comments were, we are never going to see him back up his claim which, in my opinion, is very disappointing not too mention cowardly on his behalf because he knows he will never jump in the octagon.

I have resect for anyone who gets in the ring, however if you talk the talk then fucking well prove it.

Maywether has since appologised and said the statement was for publicity. He also said he has the utmost respect for MMA fighters. (it's possible he decided to spar with one lol and was humbled).

                hello,

miketyson had some power alright. he was also good at fighting inside.

back in the day, he trained with ajarn chai in muaythai for a couple years.

miketyson is probably better prepared for mma than most realize!!

course, when going over the rules in mma, they would have to really emphasize the "no biting", neh?

                hahahahahahahahaahaha!!

                thanks.

Let's face it, MMA is showing a lot more often on much more accessible networks. MMA is moving into the mainstream, whereas boxing is drifting more and more into the domain of Pay Per View and Pay Cable. The so-called "golden age of Boxing," back when the likes of Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Kenny Norton, Larry Holmes (that's right, I said Larry Holmes!!), Sugar Ray, Marvin Hagler, Tommy Hearns, Roberto Duran, et al were fighting, anyone with a pair of rabbit ears could watch the fights! Now you either have to subscribe to premium cable, satellite, or buy the Pay Per View to get fights (or watch them on the internet, which you also have to pay for) just to see the fights. MMA on the other hand, is doing it right. if you want a sport to be mainstream, you need to make it accessible to the mainstream. That's why the World Series, Super Bowl, World Cup, etc. are all on network TV!

Which basically leaves boxing two options. Adapt, and start putting more fighters and more cards on network TV - in which case, Lampley is out of a job - or stay limited to high-dollar Pay Per View and watch your audience drift slowly toward the fights they can see for free - in which case, Lampley is out of a job. It's easy to see why Lamp is a little upset...
This is why it really bugs me when boxing fanatics criticize the UFC for appealing to bloodthirsty fans from greater unwashed America.

People who like to see fights like to see entertaining fights, regardless of income.

If you want to be the sport that charges $50K for floor seats...well, you go ahead and do that. Hell, even boxing PPVs are more expensive than MMA PPVs, and you get less fights(longer fights true, but not necessarily better). And you'll never see big name draws fight for free.

Whereas we'll be getting Pulver vs Penn free in about a month.

Its more like comparing a combination of baseball and football against football if you get what I mean.
