  • BIG trouble

    First off, hello.
I''m doing MMA, and around here, the match can only end in a knock out, submission or pin. Also, we rarely use weightclasses.

So I am in trouble. There's a guy I've already fought, and lsot against, and I have to go up against him again in a couple weeks.
I'm 75 kilos, he's 109, and there's no way I can beat him. Knocking him out doesn't work, the guy has a granite jaw. Even a roundhouse to the head only got me a knockdown.
Even though I can manage to bring him to the ground (after about a 100 lowkicks...), I can't end it there. He's so strong, he litteraly bench-presses me every time I try to cover him or secure a lock.
Can anyone help me? I really don't want to lose to him again.

try your best to choke him out. rear naked is your best option.

Take his back stick to him like glue. Choke him like Dick said. And if the guy bothers to stand up and slam you by falling back remove ur hooks and try to remove some pressure, usually keeping one hook helps maintain pos other can reduce some of the damage. If hes on his back, keep going for the sub, if he's on his stomach, keep punching him without losing position.

Do it again! Try to set up a high kick to the head and if you knock him down, follow him there and start pounding his face - assuming this is a competition?

If its just class, still follow him down, keep close and work for opening to sink in a choke or lock.

If he's bench pressing you, that's an opening right there with his arms extended, not to mention that you can drag a strong dude's arm easily if he's pushing; drag his arm into an armbar and do it quick. If he tries to get up (and stack you) use your weight to roll the armbar over and bring him onto his chest.

Ever see an alligator fight something? Once it gets a grip - it rolls over and flips its opponent over, know what I mean?

It sounds like you have trouble finding or making openings for subs? or aren't very experienced in grappling?

I'm a lot better standing up. I used to do aikido and kick boxing, so I have no trouble out maneuvering him, and I can I can get to his back, though he's very fast for his size.
Hitting on the ground isn't allowed

Sounds like he likes to wrestler and use his strength alot. I would suggest taking bottom guard position (since theres no striking on the ground) and wait for him to lock his arms (for a slam etc) before going for an arm bar/ triangle choke. Think Royce Gracie!!!

There have been some cool leg lock vids floating around recently.

              Target his knee...

              Or choke him out...

Could you point me to one of those vids? I think I can get his legs, my lowkicks are the only thing hurting him.

                    How's your takedown defense?

Personally my strategy against bigger, stronger dudes is to strike with them until it ends up on the ground. I'd never just shoot for a takedown since even if they get a half assed sprawl your face is going straight to the floor and it'll be hard to recover your position. Strike with him and get him feeling uneasy on his feet if you can so he tries to take you down then work a good guard game if a grappling match is what you want it to be.

instead of the jaw knock him out with a shot to the side of the head( temple area or behind the ear) he probably will stand with you so back and circle away, avaoid his opening flurry and counter with it. If you hit him in the face, hit him right in the middle of the chin rather than the side of the jaw. People think that a haymaker hitting the jaw is the knockout punch but it pushes the jaw left or right which doesnt hit the correct nerve. a straight hard punch to someones chin will knock them out.

lacerations force an end to a fight. cut him. Use elbows...or graze him with the top of the head when people aren't looking. Slice him up...
