  • Liddell-Silva

I think the Liddell-Silva fight was awesome.
Both were very good and put up a great show. In my opinion nobody
lost that fight, they both came out victorious.
I missed Silva's clinch and knees, though...

I'm not sure but from my perspective, it seemed like Hughes was digging back into his roots and taking more of a wrestling approach to this fight than anything. He tried for some single leg attempts but they seemed half-assed, maybe the memory of that kick he took last fight is still in his head. GSP stuffed all of Hughe's takedown attempts and took Matt down twice with a knee pick. Second period comes, GSP takes down Matt with an amazing Judo throw, lands in side mount, inverted triangles Matt's head and kimura's his arm. Matt straightens his arm to defend the kimura, bucks and turtles up with GSP latching on to his arm in an armbar transition. Matt was stuck and verbally tapped a few seconds later.

Anybody see Manny annihilate that dude's ankle with that Achilles Lock? Bloody insane!

Yeah, GSP was very well rounded in this fight and was never in danger, it's almost like he toyed around with Hughes.

this fight was okay, Liddell was the clear winner. towards the end of the fight, they were both getting really tired, and Chuck was just trying to ride time out and get the decision.

i wish they wouldve engaged alot more too. You have two of MMA's most feared strikers backing off eachother like a bunch of pansies for most of the fight.

                  re

Chuck is a bad matchup for Wanderlei, just as Wanderlei is a bad matchup for
Rampage. It is like the Foreman-Frazier-Ali triumvirate for mixed martial arts.
BTW what do u think of Spider Silva vs. Hendo.???? fight of the century?

                    Meanwhile, way to go GSP!!
                    I hope so.

Honestly, the claim from the Hughes camp after the first loss to GSP(and when fighting Penn the 2nd time) was that the problem Hughes was having was that he was believing his own hype and trying to stand up with his opponents...

Now he's tried the old school traditional wrestling approach and that didn't work either...

Sort of the same issue facing Rich Franklin. Both are still top fighters, but after 2 convincing, dominating defeats, they seem to have hit a brick wall in their careers.
