  • Best gi?

    Hey yo,

I started BJJ about 2 months ago and have been using my old karate gi. Needless to say it's pretty light and is starting to come apart. So, what's the best JJ gi out there? I'm considering names like ouano, krugans, or atama. Any suggestions?

          1. HCK (by a long shot)
          2. Machado or KF
          3. Atama
          4. Ouano

I agree, HCK, plus Howard now has a standard single which he sells for $70.00 www.howardliu.com.

I know something like a GI souds trivial to really care about but I have a Kikskin, I'm not really sure if its double or single weave, but I'm pretty sure its double. Does anyone here recomend a new GI or is it good enough? I like it a lot but I also never even put on a different GI [not even a Karate GI]. So is it important to get a better GI or does it even matter?

I have a Atama Mario Sperry model and like it alot, but wish I would have bought a Howard. The HCK has a big seam right down the middle of the back which makes it really hard for someone to grab for a couple of gi chokes. This may seam like no big deal but when you get choked out with a different gi on you are kinda like damn i wish i would bought the HCK. Alot of guys that I train with have them, some for 3 years and holding up great. I really like my Atama but you are better off with the HCK. A couple guys from my school bought Kruegans because they look so cool, but they started falling apart on them after about 6 months. Also make sure you get it in the right size, you want that thing to fit kinda tight in the armpits and make sure it doesn't hang to far below the belt. My first gi was to long and I was always getting it caught in my hands when I would try to armlock from the mount.

                      triangle - shaddup (lol)

hsc - stick with your kikskin, but if it comes time for a new gi, check out the hck.

I tried an Atama Golden Weave but never got it to fit.Another problem, and the reason why I dont like Golden Weaves, there so thin. Its like when your playing basketball with a t-hsirt on.When you start to sweat, the shirt gets baggy and kinda like a robe.Same with Golden Weaves.Or at the least the Atama Golden Weaves.I bought a Krugans and its light and all but after a half-hour of rolling,it starts to feel baggy.I still like the Krugans though, just golden weaves feel strange on me.Anyone else have this prob?

I would recommend Ouano. I've got the standard single weave, and It's awesome. Whenever i'm not wearing the jacket (with the ouano patch), I get a lot of guys asking about the pants, REALLY sturdy.

                            my take on ouano’s single…

I’m sure john is a great guy and I know a few people that are happy with his gi’s… I’ve seen, felt and looked at the ouano single… all I have to say is, “you get what you pay for.” for an addition $30 I’d get the hck single. going from $60 to $90 is a worthwhile jump to make.

                            just my $.02

Hey Karl, how the hell do you know anything about Gi's since you never train........

Oh, yeah, I forgot, you're in charge of the laundry dept. at work and wash the Gi's for everyone else.

                              what's your favorite laundry soap?

                              fabric softener?

                              HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
