That's pretty impressive that it's been in Hollywood since the '50's as well.

The notorious "judo" chop... Deadly stuff. I wonder if you could find some clips on U tube...?

Actually yeah. It was big respect to see Asian martial arts in movies in the fifties especially after WWII and then with the Korean war going on. You weren't American if you didn't box. Asian martial arts were a big no-no and a big mystery really in that time period.

                  If that's what you meant.

Been trying to find a clip but I can't seem to yet. It wasn't a hugely popular Sinatra film I don't think.

Me: I like that. And from now on, whenever I see a bus stop sign, or telephone pole, I will bow to it - and for any of you wisenhymers on here, that applies just to those two types of poles - Thank you very much.

Me: Who the heck says, "wisenhymer" anymore? Didn't even know it had a spelling!

Me: Walk into a pole, rather than bow, and you too will know how to not only start to re-use, let alone, how to spell it - buit carry on your own two way forum posts! My God, this is a bad dream - Jubaji, where are you - wake me up from this helll with one of those classic remarks of yours - HELP! Help, Help! wait a minute, thats for calling Underdog - yo Michael - Help!

In the context of this thread, I have to go with Wrestling - it has to be pretty underrated not to even make it onto the list.

I would have included it but the system only gives you 10 poll options and I just listed the first arts that came to mind.

Fair enough. I guess they don't want polls that are 35 options long.

I would have probably picked wrestling anyway, as in general it's not even considered a martial art, and hardly anyone who hasn't wrestled gives it much credit.

I believe wrestling has big time respect since the beginning of UFC and we are talking early 1990's. I'm not sure if many people consider it a martial art.

I guess I don't see the respect it gets matching what I think it deserves. A prime example is Chuck Liddell isn't even recognized to have started in wrestling. People are more interested in the Kempo that he started later on, and have a tendency to disregard his solid foundation in wrestling. I also get this feeling across the board, if someone doesn't primarily wrestle (such as Matt Hughes), their wrestling generally isn't recognised.

I agree though, that the UFC did wonders to raise the respect wrestling receives, but WWE does just as much to detract from the respect - speaking of which, pro-wrestlers probably get the least respect and are among the most underrated. They need a high level amateur wrestling pedigree to get any respect outside the pro-wrestling world.

Pro Wrestling is entertainment, with story lines but I think most people know not to Fook with a pro wrestler in the street.
