To Slap or not to Slap:

Slaps can be effective due to the speed generated by the relaxed hand. It effectively works like a whip.

If you are using closed hand strikes you should not clinch your first until right at impact. The same goes for a backfist. Most commonly taught by Kung Fu fighters.

When your hands are relaxed, your arms are relaxed. When your fist is clinched your arms are tight. This totaly causes you to loose your energy, strength and speed. I can't give you a statistic, but a punch thrown with a relaxed hand is much faster that if you clinch you fist. We all know that power=mass x velocity.

Bruce Lee authored a series of very small books that demonstrate his 1 & 2" power punch. It trains you to stay relaxed during the punch, and how to get your whole body behind the punch with very little wind up. This is very practical in real life situations when you don't want to telegraph the punch.

It is also nice to showcase at formal dinner party's.

P.S. Mickey Finn, I am seeking a part time position in the pimping industry, please let me know when you have an opening. Are there any professional pimp headhunters? I guess I could check headhunters.com

Ironpalm- when you master the quivering palm and can match each organs vibration rate, please let me know. I'll camp out on your doorstep to be your top student. I am completely serious, no troll here.

                I like em

I prefer open palm strikes. First, you can block and parry faster and more effectively if you keep your hands open. You can sprawl more easily and go into grappling. You can also strike faster with open hands. The risk of breaking your hand is far less too. Further, you can go instantly from striking to grabbing the head or a shirt. One of my favorite strikes is not the left jab, but what I call the "left grab". That's right, a left palm strike to the head or chest that grabs and pulls the person into a right punch or open palm strike to the jaw or throat if life is on the line. The other great advantage is the blinding effect of the blow. An open hand straight at the face temporarly blinds the opponent because it is so broad. That sets up power strikes and takedowns nicely. You can also continue with the strike into an eye gouge or head push to the ground. Knuckle punching is dangerous to your hand, no doubt about it. You can become a one handed fighter with one misplaced jab. Happens all the time in real fights with fists. You don't have to aim as well with open palms. In the heat of fighting fists land in bad places, such as teeth, or the forehead. Ouch. Many combat experts agree, and do not advocate using fists unless the punch is to a soft spot, like the balls when on the ground--works good for things like passing the guard: punch the balls 12 times and then knee their butt bone 12 times. Next, hammer fist strike their nose, throat, and solar plexus like a very angry gorilla, then pick them up and slam the back of their head into the ground a couple of times. Next, grab them by the neck and push your thumbs into their adams apple until you hear a gargling sound. Be sure and keep your elbows out to avoid those peskey arm locks. Then proceed to head butt their nose 4-8 times. Then pass. This is merely for demonstration purposes and good clean fun. Sorry for the tangent

My point exactly. I've got cycle of distruction and duration cycle down, now I just need vibration. And if your doorstep is full of wannabe's, you should do what I do, either use them as guinnea pigs for new knockouts, or do an hour of ukemi and see who has the heart to stick around.

                              Local

I currently live in Honolulu, HI due to the military, but I grew up and graduated in Venice, Fl. I try to go home a couple of times a year to visit family and friends. The 70 mile drive up the coast sounds well worth it. I'm always looking to learn something new, or old stuff from a different view, ie. okinawan vs. chinese. I'll contact you when I get some firm dates. I look forward to meeting you in person.
