To Slap or not to Slap:
Slaps can be effective due to the speed generated by the relaxed hand. It effectively works like a whip.
If you are using closed hand strikes you should not clinch your first until right at impact. The same goes for a backfist. Most commonly taught by Kung Fu fighters.
When your hands are relaxed, your arms are relaxed. When your fist is clinched your arms are tight. This totaly causes you to loose your energy, strength and speed. I can't give you a statistic, but a punch thrown with a relaxed hand is much faster that if you clinch you fist. We all know that power=mass x velocity.
Bruce Lee authored a series of very small books that demonstrate his 1 & 2" power punch. It trains you to stay relaxed during the punch, and how to get your whole body behind the punch with very little wind up. This is very practical in real life situations when you don't want to telegraph the punch.
It is also nice to showcase at formal dinner party's.
Cleat
P.S. Mickey Finn, I am seeking a part time position in the pimping industry, please let me know when you have an opening. Are there any professional pimp headhunters? I guess I could check headhunters.com
