do you think it's best to share an apartment, etc with a roommate in Japan to split expenses? I know housing, and such is very expensive there. The reason I ask is because a Japanese friend of mine and me are discussing sharing an apartment in Japan in about 3 years while we both teach. I am not sure we're going to be in Tokyo though...we may be around the Osaka area.

The cost of living is continually going down here. The prolonged recession has lead to some changes that have made things cheaper. But it's still a very expensive place to live. It depends on where you live as to whether or not a roommate is worth it. If you are in a small town you could probably afford a whole house to yourself. If you are in a big city you will pay $600 (if you're lucky) to $1000 for one small room. If you're in the suburbs like me the same place costs $300 to $500. One thing to keep in mind is that it costs a fortune to move into a place. By the time you add up first month's rent, deposit (which you will never see again no matter how well you keep the place up), and so called key money (a f---ing gift to the landlord for letting you move in) you might have to plop down the equivalent of six months rent up front. Most places only lease for 2 years at a time, and will require you to pay a fee (at least a months rent) every time you renew the lease. Then there is getting a phone line. That will cost you about $700 (you can buy them used for cheaper). You can skip that cost by only having a cell phone. The good news is there are some places (like the Leo Palace apartment chain) now that don't require key money or long term leases and as of today (1 May 2001) the telecommunications market just got a lot more competative. So things are probably going to keep getting cheaper.

Thank you for all the info. I'm going to start paying a little more attention to Japan's economy and price inflations, etc. From what you said it sounds like things might get a little better.

Try to get a job that either provides or subsidizes housing, or at least where they help you out with the initial expense. My employer gave me an interest-free loan to cover my first month's rent, deposit, and agent's fee (peanuts compared to Japan though).

You know I don't know what I did to offend you Elam but I don't believe I have done a thing. I don't know why you are making it a habit of attacking me but quite frankly I am getting fed up with it. When referring to the Brazilian style, the conventional spelling is "jiu-jitsu".

When referring to the traditional Japanese, the conventional spelling is "jujutsu".

When referring to the westernized American style, the conventional spelling is "jujitsu".

Also, "brazilian" is spelled with one "L", not two.

Since a Nebula is just a mist of space gas and has no substance,divided by two it would still be nothing.Add the square root of 230,which is 15.16575 and you get that as your answer.
