  • How does a person become a Black Belt in Mixed Martial Arts ?

    .
In most styles of Martial Arts their are different degrees of advancements and different collars of belts to represent them.

!. In Mixed Martial Arts how does a person advance in a concept without a real style amoung more than one style to grade someone with ?

    2. How high of a degree can a person achieve Mixed Martial Arts ?

    3. How would a student in Mixed Martial Arts be advanced when there is not a definite style to go by ?

    4. How can another person judge if a student has or has not achieved his or her on ability in a style that has no set guidelines ?

There aren't any belts in MMA. At least not to my knowledge.

So are you saying that in MMA the way you come into the style you remain the same and never advance.

Say you have a brown belt in one style, and a green belt in another, and a yellow in another style, you will remain the same even though you improve in each. Or do you have to continue to advance only in the different styles your in independently.

The problem with your question is that MMA isn't exactly a style it's a rule set. A competitor in MMA may hold ranks in any number of styles (especially judo or bjj) but it does not have ranks of it's own. When you think about it the other sporting styles (wrestling, boxing, muay thai) don't have ranks either. That's because they compete, and you can gauge how accomplished a person is by their record. IMHO this means a lot more than a subjective rank that's bestowed by your instructor. If you are constantly learning and improving what do you really need "rank" for anyway?

Actually belt rank and degrees never did mean a whole lot to me.
Because I have over the years seen many upgrades that were made politically, and some times just plain ridiculous.

Not if your looking to have a colorfull belt or certificate to prove it, no.
But you can see how advanced someone is through sparring and how well someone handles him or herself.

From what I have read and understand, if a person wants to increase in the above mentioned 3 styles they already have and has the 3 different collared belt ranks in these 3 ( brown, green, yellow ) they will have to continue to progress in each individual style to increase in there recognized organizations ranks.

Or they could just forget all of that and be their self and do there own thing from what ever they consider useful to them with out any real rank from any type of style.

How ever they perform it is there own Mixed Martial Arts and then they just get better in what they do to what ever degree of increase they are comfortable with and forget the belts, degrees, ranks, etc.

The only belts that matter in MMA are the TITLE BELTS!

You're judged on your fighting ability, not what belt you have on. You can see how advanced a student is by how well they fight. this is a far more accurate way of judging someone's abilty than simply looking at a belt colour. For example, how many blackbelts out there are useless at fighting? Loads. Belts don't matter one bit. What is important is how well you can fight.

Some schools may have a set curriculm for their MMA program where you can advance through certain levels.

Also, a lot of BJJ schools also have a MMA program, but in reality your advancement is through the BJJ program.

I know there is also a system called Intergrated Systems Mixed Martial Arts, which is developed by Master Ricardo Murgel out of Brazil. I think it's Official Union World Organization Website

                    Hope that info helps.

                    Good luck.
