I have some ideas I have been thinking about regarding enhancements to airline security.
1. The pilot's cabin should LITERALLY be as sealed with a metal, air tight door that can only be opened from the inside. NO ONE, even the stewardesses should be able to enter the cabin at any time. The pilots would have their own oxygen supply as well as food, water, and toliets.
2. No carry-on luggage.
3. Passengers will wear gowns like hospital patients wear.
4. After their clothing is removed and carefully examined, the passengers will be searched (I know, it's disgusting but I really believe that someone willing to blow up a plane is probaly willing to insert things into their internal cavities) and examined by scenting dogs. Their clothing and personal belongings will accompany the rest of their luggage in the bottom of the plane.
5. The passengers will be fastened into their seats and made comfortable. However, they must notify the stewardess that they wish to leave their seat. Only one passenger may leave his seat at a time. Also, passengers will be searched upon exiting the restroom and the restroom must be searched after the passenger has been safely fastened into his seat.
6. Restrictive equipment such as hand and leg "bracelets" equipped with electric shockers that can be used to subdue unruly passengers.
7. Security guards on the planes.
8. All efforts should be made to isolate friends/family, with the exception of young children, for the duration of the flight. Also, the level of communication should be kept to a minimum like in a library. You can't talk in a library, why do you need to on a plane. Any communication that does take place should be carefully monitored.
9. Racial Profiling of people of Arabic ethnicity.
10. No silverware used on the plane. Only stirofoam plates and glasses along with finger food and beverages served.
11. This one is completely unrealistic, except what do you think? Background checks could be done on all passengers prior to them being allowed to board the plane. If someone buys a ticket, he must provide full identification. A background check could be done on all passengers. Assuming the passenger passed the background check, he would have to supply a fingerprint before boarding the plane and a quick fingerprint check would be done to make sure he is who he claimed to be when he bought the ticket.
12. How about a self-destruction button on the plane. As soon as a terrorist takes control of the plane, the pilots have a secret button they can push to cause the plane to explode.
13. Someday, it will be possible to cheaply, safely, and convienently anesthetize all passengers for the duration of the flight much like a surgeon or a dentist does with a patient.
I personally would prefer to suffer these inconveniences in return for the increased safety of myself and my loved ones. What do you guys think about these different ideas? Anybody like any of them?
