      Hawk:

First of all, no one's talking about "taking away" guns from people, so you're beating up your straw-man again. I'm one of the most lefty people around, and I don't want to do it, so you're barking up the wrong tree my friend.

Secondly, you may not like Clinton (or Gore), but he is the duly-elected commander-in-chief of this country, which makes him the military's boss. If he says 'jump', the military should say 'how high?' If they don't, then we REALLY have a problem.

Third, my point is that, military experience or no, you guys would be out-gunned, period. So talking about guns being necessary to stave off totalitarianism is silly - it wouldn't work. That's not the way to fight tyranny in this day and age. Anyway, Joe wants to cut peoples' balls off, so he's hardly a spokesman for the anti-totalitarian forces.

Fourth, you're right about the Weimar Republic, but they were hardly an entrenched democracy in a time of ENORMOUS social chaos. They were easy pickings for Hitler - they'd only been around a few years after replacing the Kaiser, and never really got their legs under them. By contrast, the U.S. has been a democracy for 224 years, with no military coups yet. So you're comparing cherries to watermelons.

Fifth, I didn't mean to sound condescending, but I AM fairly knowledgable about these things, and I think the arguments you guys are using are pretty weak. The U.S. is as stable as a society gets, and is likely to remain that way.

You might as well say we need guns to fight the alien invasion. It's about as likely to happen.

Peace, love, and harmony, my groovy bald brothers!

First, most of what you said in your last post I'll kinda go along with. I don't like Clinton and Gore and the military aren't in love with them either, so even if they were to give the order to go against their own people I think the military would beau up to that type order, and that to me is a good thing. Following orders is no excuse. Ask Adolf Eichman. I will not gloat over the Germany-Hitler
thing, just take it from Master Hawk Foo young feller, when you start talking in absolutes you're gonna get it stuck where the sun don't shine.HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

Actually, I remembered Germany after I posted, old feller.

As I explained, I don't think it negates my point, but I'll defer to you on this one because I respect my elders.

            Welfare

So long as a person is a burden on the state, he/she should be deprived the priviledge of having children.

All women on welfare should be given temporary infertility treatments to assure society they will not become a further burden on the state.

If you can swing it yourself, doesn't matter how much money you have. 90% of the state of Alabama would perish under Joe's stringent criteria...

Furthurmore, many of the true successes of our country came from outright poverty or very meager means...including Napolean Hill.
