  • I want to start martial arts

I'm going to be 17 years old and I was wondering is it too late for me to begin and be a success in martial arts? I don't know much about it but I want to learn. I hope you can help.

It's never too late to start. I mean, some adults who are at least 40 go into martial arts.

What's your reason to learn martial arts? Fitness or self-defense?

What exactly do you mean by "success"? I agree with blade_cs. It's never too late to start. But that might depend on your reasons for starting. My bjj instructor didn't start bjj until he was like 29 or so. He's 41 now. I didn't start until I was 22.

I want to learn self defense

I want to learn self defense and I've always wanted to learn martial arts but I was running track but I can't run anymore so I want to start the one thing I've always wanted to attempt. When I say I wan't to be a success, I mean I want to be really good at it. Thanks for answering and I appreciate the help.

Why do you want to train? Would you plan on competing in the future, or just want to learn an "art form," or learn how to fight 1 on 1? With weapons or without? Need to be more specific.

I want to train because I'm really competed so mostly for competition and I want to learn how to fight if I was in a situation when I have to. I would like to learn with and without weapons. Call me crazy but I want to be the best in martial arts. There's mostly little childern where I want to be trained at so I might have to be a personal trainer but does it cost alot of $.

Well, you should give us your choices, like the schools in your area, then we could help you.

Meh...TKD? Why did you choose that? If I was you I'd take Muay Thai...that's what I'm about to do...

                        that or BJJ

                          Sorry about the mistake

This is all new to me so I'm experimenting with everything.

If you want learn to fight, a rule of thumb is to avoid any Karate, Tae Kwon Do, or Kung-Fu. I recommend Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, or Shootfighting.
