when people say "roll" on this board in reference to fighting, it usually means "to wrestle" or applying some kind of groundfighting technique
i know what "rolling" means, but i thought he was talking about trying to actually sommersault out of the way of the tackle. i thought this because it sounded like he didn't want the guillotine because it put him on the ground.

and yes, i know that telling a grappler not to grapple is pointless, and one should play to their strengths, but i still think you should stay off the ground whenever possible. even the best grapplers know that it's stupid to go straight to the ground. rickson gracie said that if he was faced with a weapon or multiple opponents, he'd either use his .45 or run. real life is not a game or a match, and that's why bjj is #1 for matches but leaves a lot to be desired for self defense.

i would guess that rickson is a grappler. i would think if a grappler was going against multiple enemies and he goes hand to hand. then his opponents friends are going to beat the crap out of him. because if he is sitting there twisting that one guys arms into a pretzel then he is busy with that one guy, but say someone who knows tae kwon do then he would have another point of view because he would be more affective with multiple enemies. iyour right life isn't a game. but what happens if he doesn't have is trusty .45 with him. and i know for one thugs don't just give you a window of oppertunity to run. for instance i had this friend and he went to this club. well the blacks there didn't like him for some reason. so when he was going back to his car the blacks followed him. one thing led to another and my friend ended up puching one of the blacks. they all surrounded him. now you tell me how to run away from that. luckely there was police at the club and they broke it up. and if someone had weapon such as a gun to you and then you ran. he would shoot you in the back unless your relying in his mentallity. i personally wouldn't. i would rather rely on myself to kick his ass.

firstoff, before things get out of hand, please never mention the word "effective" in conjunction with tae kwon do ever again. that said, i'll move on.

i would guess that rickson is a grappler
rickson gracie is pretty much the messiah of the grappling arts today, and his family popularized gracie/brazilian jiu jitsu, opening the eyes of the world to the fact that striking alone will not save you.

i know for one thugs don't just give you a window of oppertunity to run. for instance i had this friend and he went to this club. well the blacks there didn't like him for some reason. so when he was going back to his car the blacks followed him. one thing led to another and my friend ended up puching one of the blacks.
i don't know what is giving you all this experience at the ripe old age of 16, but ok. to start with, your friend has his head up his ass. what did he do/say to make the "blacks" have a problem with him? secondly, punching a single guy in an angry gang and not having a plan to get the hell out of there? i'd nominate him for the darwin awards.

          they all surrounded him
no shit? really? he's lucky they didn't kill him. watch out for those guys...they might surround you if you piss them off.

now you tell me how to run away from that.
well, i'd start with not doing anything physical unless i was absolutely certain that i was about to be relieved of my right to breath. that's why martial arts fail all the time. do you know how to talk someone down so that you can create an opening for a shot that could drop mike tyson? it's not as easy as you'd think. it is EXTREMELY difficult to beat more than one capable opponent at the same time with a purely physical response. now take into account that the "bad guy" may be armed, on drugs, a roided-up monster...

if someone had weapon such as a gun to you and then you ran. he would shoot you in the back unless your relying in his mentallity
this is based upon your years and years of hands one experience i'm sure. i think your time would have been better spent in english class.

i would rather rely on myself to kick his ass.
you go do that. if you hang out with your friend some more, i'm sure you'll find the opportunity to prove how deadly you are. don't worry, soon you will be dead at the hands of a 13 year old with a razor. happy hunting.

well, ok. i may have gone a bit overboard, but seriously. i still think your friend was dumb for doing what he did, and a 16 year old saying he'd like to whoop ass on a mugger with a gun rather than trying to disengage first? sounds like one of those wishy washy dreams where you defeat an entire gang of murderous ex-cons with an incredible display of bone shattering martial arts prowess.

you are certain that someone would shoot you if you ran and that there's no way to escape from a multiple attacker situation? if you had as much experience as you claim, you would not be asking questions like this one, and you would never have questioned what a knife can do to ruin someone's day. don't exaggerate your accomplishments, knowledge, experience, etc. try to be serious in the future, and people will take you more seriously.

How often would you say a guy who picks a fight with you on the street would know how to tackle properly?

I mean, they would know how to tackle just from watching football games, but tackling for fighting is a bit different cause the opponent is trying to kill you. They may be able to get you on the ground, but not keep you pinned.

I cant help but notice you use the words "the blacks" as most people would use unsavory character or villian. Is the attackers race important to your story or to you?

first off all everyone know how to tackle its a natural instinct alot of the time. i don't think they are trying to kill you by tackling or they would just bring a knife or gun. and no its not different from fighting. and when they tackle you anything could happen. for example concussion, broken arm, ect. and yes they could keep you pinned for a while and even more time for people who don't know a grappling or wresting art.

Mike i'm sorry if i offended you i admit i was kind of slopy on the writing. from now on i will use African(enter country).

What type of fighting to you consider as "grappling" in your opinion? Just joint locks like Aikido/Hapkido or ground fighting like BJJ?

                              Hi,

I was looking at the picture, but I was wondering is it usefull? and who is the defender? if it's the one with the blue shirt he has one hell of a problem that way? The man with the black shirt can give one hell of a knee right between the opponent ribs or even face.
If the man with the black shirt is the defender he has a problem as well. The man in the blue shirt can just give a hard punch in the groins of the man with the blackshirt.

However, I am aware when we are not talking about defending on the street but just "ring" fight it's a different story

                              Or am i wrong?

                              Looking forward to your comments

                              Bye

                                who's the attacker or defender?

looks like the guy on the left is the attacker
