Ok, Rickson Gracie against a random selection of Judo Black Belts isn't exactly a fair contest. He's, one of, if not the best BJJ fighters around. Let him go against people of comparable skill and experience like Yoshida and see how he does. Most of the ground work in BJJ is based on Judo techniques.

I don't know why I get involved in these coversations, but I do. So, as it has been said a hundred times the practitioner is more important than the art. I don't think BJJ is better on the ground than Judo. The problem is that so few Judo people pay much attention to ground work.

My mom is a 3rd degree master in Judo from the Phillipines. She's 53 now and hasn't practiced since 25-30 years ago, but she constantly reminds me that the most important thing to get out of any martial art is discipline. It will last you your entire life.
