    BigBodybuilder,

As a fellow doorman i have worked with a large number of people who have your attitude towards the martial arts,I have earned the respect of them all and was promoted to head doorman very quickly.

I am not a big guy, - about 5,10 and about 13 stone.

And yet i deal with people of your size and larger on a regular basis. drunk and not, their underestimation of my size and my skill is their big downfall. I do not do BJJ or kickboxing but i have extensive martial arts knowledge.

I totally agree that the majority of 'martial artists' are up their own ass (especially in BJJ and MT circles). I have never had a problem dealing with this sort of person. They have an inlfated opinion of their own ability and can rarely do what they think. All i can say is that there are some of us that really do 'know' their stuff and can deal with experienced 'thug' street fighters regularly.

As a side note - if you have gone up against a black belt this means nothing really. So many dojo's hand out black belts to people that have no concept of the art. Many arts (traditional) regard blackbelts as the beginning of the real thing and it is only after a number of grades above this that you are profficient and able to deal with any situation.

I have no desire to tell you how it 'is' or call you names as i am well aware that this will not change any of your views.

I currently feel embarrased to say that i practice the martial arts because of the HUGE numbers of terible dojo's and training that is now available, it seems that so many people get their black belt, get to 2nd or 3rd dan and then say 'i know what im talking about' and start teaching, this is abserd.

I am not really suprised that you have been able to deal with martial artists that you have met. To me these people are martial artists in name only and have no interest to me or th REAL martial arts. I have challanged many of these type of dojo's in my region and have never lost. I do not think i am better than their arts just their students (and sometimes tachers).

Thankyou for your views, I agree with some.

    cheers

    Chris

And how'd you know my nickname was monkey boy? Honestly, my jawline, flaring ears, and long arms have resulted in several people, independently of one another, calling me that.

I didn't know it all carried over into cyber-space

But, don't call my friends punks anymore or I'll have to throw bananas dipped in crazy glue at your backside and release upon you seven pubescent, male baboons, armed with buck-knives and KY jelly.

This thread is so long, and I couldn't be arsed reading it. But I read the first few posts and can agree with some of what this guy is saying.

I have seen loads and loads of "tough guys" in the martial arts who couldn't actually knock their way out of a paper bag. The situation isn't as bad since MMA and BJJ came on the scene, but it is still bad.

There are a lot of nasty bastard untrained people out there who could rip many martial artists to pieces.

              Just my two cents.

Very true. If you can fight, you can fight--doesn't matter what color your little belt is.

No, the true test of maturity is whether or not you belong to a judo-chop board, where you post at length about some guy no larger than Yoda named Bung Ho Lee, who can single handedly devastate the entire offensive line (first, second, and third string) of any NFL football team, in full pads and armed with flaming nunchaka, while drunk, stoned, and with one hand tied around his three balls, by utilizing the ancient art of stink-finger, taught to him by his 162 year-old great, great, great Grandfather, Kok Hang Low, who still lives to this very day, levatating from temple to temple in the full-lotus, absorbing nutrients from the air and using the stink-finger to overthrow governments who legalize steroid use from his home, constructed from the rib bones of all his defeated foes, in the land of Yank Mei Wang.
That was one of the funnier things I have read this week

                            just thinking

the bodybuilder guy could easily be telling the truth, BUT he probably got into it with a self proclaimed BJJ expert. here is how i came to that conclusion, the "BJJ expert" got him in some good locks..... if the guy was truly skilled in real BJJ he would still be in those locks. i think it should read he ALMOST got me in some good locks. anyone that knows TRUE BJJ knows that stregth doesn't mean anything when it comes to countering a lock. it is all leverage. if body builder was actually in a lock from a real BJJ guy he would have gotten something broken or choked out.

i worked in many bars and can say i know MANY guys that have no MA knowledge that can bend most people into a knot. you don't have to practice MA to be a good fighter, BUT it can always make a good fighter better. on the flip side i know many people that study MS that could not beat their way out of a wet paper bag. what it boils down to is the person.

Please don't type in all caps--it's annoying. If you are handicapped by previous military service, I understand. Even so, knock it off

You can't overcome raw power with something you learned in training. I've never had training in martial arts. I did train with a professional boxer for awhile though.
wow i wish i could train with a professional boxer. but anyways did you know that boxing is considered a martial art. just something for you to think about.
as for your almighty RAW POWER----i'm glad you have it, it supports your ego.
if you don't need martial arts well then thats great. some of us do because we like know we are a effective, consistent fighter.
