every tribal group around the world have a way of fighting and certain weapons which they favor, the native americans were no different. the big issue is the native americans were isolated from the rest of the world until the europeans arrived bearing firearms. the french and english used the natives in there war and provided firearms to them, thus changing the way thay fought. the main reason the united states doesn't have the battlefeild martial arts of many other countries is because the country is so young and only existed in the era of firearms.

I resurrected this one to let everyone know that you can get a black belt in Native American Martial Arts from Chief Roman.

What, no polk salad mixed with grubs? Adds a lot of flavor. The multi-talented chief chef recommends it.

I gave up grubs 2 years ago.

Now let us never speak of grubs again.

Agreed. I now go to engage in peaceful non-combativeness with the sandman as I am going quail hunting tomorrow. I've tried to take them with a hammerfist and right cross, but they are very elusive. I'll have to resort to 12 gauge kung fu. TTFN.

                "Indian Wrestling"

Does anyone remember this game as a kid? Two people would stand with the outer edges of their feet touching while griping each other's nearest hands. The goal was to cause the opponent to move one of his feet. It was a pure game of leverage, and I believe that it was developed by Native American tribes. There may be other games that were used to develop various "hand-to-hand" combat skills. The thing is, natural selection would have determined the way that the Native Americans fought. If something worked, it would continue to be used. If not, then it would have been discarded because the loser using said ineffective method would likely be dead. I believe that they learned to fight by play fighting, games and the real thing. Much like how they learned to swim. I doubt that there was a systematized method passed down ala the Chinese.

Danjo: We used to do this in school and we called it "Indian Wrestling". It was definately fun. Dang. Haven't thought of that in a long time.
