  • Baton Rouge.

A bad temper is a double edged sword - motivates you, but destroys your awareness. That's how De la Hoya beat Vargas; Vargas flew off the bat and nearly sent him out of the ring in round 2, but De la Hoya exploited Vargas's rage which left him open for his famous 7-10 punch combos.

    • Well I am a pretty big guy at 6'2" 240lbs. and solid. Usually when I get pissed stuff (or people) gets broken. I have no problem with competing in tournaments. I was in one or two full contact tournaments and never had any problems with the temper, but I don't think it would be the same with the NHB. I mean I have never been in an NHB fight but it just seems more like street fighting that tournament fighting.

      • NHB fighting is arguably safer than ring fighting and therefore gives you a longer fight career. You don't get pummeled as much. Funny that you said your temper goes up when you get hit in the head; then you said you competed twice and it hasn't bothered your temper - was it karate style point sparring competition

I don't think you've fought before, because when you do fight you are battling your emotions - fear, anger etc. Some of the biggest and baddest fighters get scared.

        • It's not neccesarily getting hit in the head I guess. It's more or less the setting that it's taking place I guess. Some of the tournaments were different, but we had 3 rounds think they were three min. I think clean punches and kicks were scored 2 points, take down was 4 points, and submission or ko ends match.

            • It was open form. They had different styles there. Think they were all Japanese styles for the most part though.

              • Are Japanese styles good for weight loss? I can think of some folks that spend too much time in the office and suffer from extremely high blood pressure, cholesterol and weight associated health problems - kind of affects their whole life & mentality...

                • I have tried lots of different styles of martial arts and just about most of them are gonna help you loose weight and be healthier just because of the simple fact that you are exercising. Japanese martial arts have the kicks and punches and some takedowns too. I find they are a little more well rounded for fighting but maybe a little less excersize than some other martial arts. Really depends on the style of Japanese martial art you want to know about.

I never once said my style is better and have been pretty respectfull; you're reaction is identical to Ryta's; your format, rhetoric and style all resemble Ritas. Most folks on this site (even aikidoka) are knowledgable about their arts - you are trolling on bs - its ok, just admit it.

Your used car sales psychology and techniques reek through your messages you are what you do and it shows. You seem like an unhappy person, unsatisfied with your image and have resorted to manipulation to get everything you want.

Just take a MA class for real - no one will disrespect you.

                            • Respectful to me? you are so full of crap, soon as I said something about taking Aikido you guys jump on my case, start making fun of what I did, and then are calling me Ryta (still trying to figure that one out). I am not trying to be disrespectful to you but soon as I say anything you jump to conclusions, start taking everything I say out of context, and just starting crap with me. Yea so what I studied Aikido and Shorin-ryu so whats the big deal??? Something wrong with Japanese martial arts? You have not asked me one question about anything you just assume that I don't know what I am talking about because you like to jump in and take things out of context.

                              • Nothing wrong with Japanese MAs. They are very respectable arts and excellent for self-defense - TJJ, karate, judo and to some degree aikido. There are very many respectable Japanese martial artists. You are blatantly BS ing. You do not know what you are talking about. Your opinion changes faster than ramus can decide on what style he likes. But atleast he has settled on a style and is training in it.

Ryta has immortalized herself with her ignorance of the MAs, car sales psychobabble, feeble attempts to draw attention and emotional lashing - which is exactly what you have been doing.

Looks like I hit a nerve; you didn't. Don't play the victim when your BS gets called Ryta.
