I do MT Savate is not so big here.

I prefer MT as Savate concentrates more on sweeps and take downs.

I prefer to keep it standing and win there.

I really want to do BJJ now though because i cant fight on the ground at all and i know this is a massive weakness.

Yea I was just wondering cuz I live in South Louisiana which is mostly cajun french and I know a couple people that are Savate kickboxers. I have never fought them but I have heard that there was one of them that was suppose to be pretty good. As a matter of fact the guy that sits in the next office over from me told me he used to do it. He is older and fatter now (much fatter) and says he does not practice anymore. I think it would be cool just to see though.

Sometimes at the MT shows i go to someone enters who does Savate.

Usually they do ok cos the MT guy is expecting not to get thrown much which is understandable when you are fighting in a MT ring.

Once they figure the guy out the Savate gy=uy tends to suffer close in. But it looks like a good system though.

RBSD and Combatives are not better or worse than MMA. They're different, and were bred for different use. MMA is for the ring, and aspects of it can translate to self-defense. The same can be said in reverse for the others. A big disqualifier, however, is the fact that much of what is combatives is a laundry list of illegal techniques and shots in the ring.

The differences between RBSD/Combatives and combat sports are too many to list again. Please do a search under them (the forum has a search function) to see the many past posts about them.

By the way, you won't see any wrist locks and such in the curriculum of any decent RBSD or combatives instructor (I would stick to the ones I listed earlier--some have a very undeserved reputation). I'm with you on that one; I don't think they work either. You are also on point when it comes to hitting first. Do it, but make sure that you can justify your actions to the law if it becomes necessary. Also, make sure you know how to do it (hit first) properly. There's a little to it.

Savate is a shoe art from France. It's got some good stuff in it (and some not so good stuff). Take what's useful. Just don't expect to be able to stick your toe into someone's solar plexus.

Self-defense should be renamed 'protective offense.' Don't wait for the other guy to hit first. The only way that you can expect to have a chance against a much larger or more skilled opponent in an unarmed confrontation is to hit first, fast, hard, and not stop hitting until he's down for the count. The law in most states clearly gives you the right to proactively use force to protect yourself if a reasonable threat of serious bodily harm or death exists.

Ryanhall, the stuff you are talking about is the combatives that teach stuff like gouging the eyes, hits to the groin, and going for the adam's apple??? I saw a guy doing something one time...did not know what it was but it was definately some stuff you can't do in the ring, but I guarantee you it would end a fight quick.

Throat strikes, eye gouges and ear rips and neck cranks are all covered in MT I hope it will cover more .
