Falcon you're a big guy; but what about stocky guys? Someone 5'6" but 200 lbs - do they give you difficulties?

Guys who are stocky and extraordinarily quick on their feet are monsters, but not beasts. Mike Tyson is an example of a monster - during his hay days in the 80's he could slip and bob some fast hands and then once he got inside, the rest is history.

I can't believe those guys in NY tried to pick a fight with him.

One of my army buddies is 5'5" 210-220lbs. and is very stocky. He can't compete with me in straight out fighting because I have too much technique for him. He has a much shorter reach so he has to get to the inside and everytime he tries he gets punished with roundhouse kicks to the leg. When he does get on the inside I have a speed and power advantage for throwing punches so I get him there too, and when it comes to straight out submission fighting I have only lost to him one time in the last 7 years because I have a massive advantage in leverage over him. Our power is close but I have the speed and the leverage to overcome it.

Ever fight a fast-stocky type? That has to be a difficult attribute to overcome - a Tyson-like fighter, with good grappling skills.

I have fought a few guys like that and they are hard to fight. I manage to overcome one way or another.

Yeah... You and everyone else on this forum... We must all be some bad computer warriors, eh?...

The only problem with being the biggest guy around is that since you are so strong, you don't really need to develop your technique since, like you said falcon, you can just force your way into it. The thing with smaller people though is that since they are smaller they have to master their technique in order to counteract the big guy's strength

I haven't made any computer warrior claims - I've tapped out as many times as I've tapped others, have been knocked down, unable to continue (from leg kicks) and have received standing KOs.

Training is tough! I've had dificulty getting in my car in the morn from hard sparring the night before.

I've asked others here if they want to workout, train, roll and exchange technique cause I'm willing to learn but every body here is allready a black belt in BJJ

Same here, I have been tapped and beaten down plenty of times in class in the past. I was talking about street fighting earlier though, that's a different story.

As far as not needing to develop my technique because I am strong I don't see that as acurate because I focus very hard on proper technique and after I do every move I always make sure that my teacher thinks I did everything properly. I have been doing martial arts for a long time and I know that without technique there is no point so I focus on it.

                      Tom,

I'm just throwing some rhetoric at all the egos on this forum... No harm intended. It just seems as though everyone in this forum is either a #1 contender or a retired prodigy, so to speak. I know you, among some others, are geniunely honest in your approach.

I'm with you on that... I've said it before and I'll say it now... I was never a great fighter, but I am a diligent trainer and that 's what I do best.

Yeah, everyone on the computer claims this and that. Comes with the territory.

Nobody from the thread wants to train (sigh)

I think I train more than enough by the way. I do weights Monday (triceps and chest), Jiu-Jitsu Tuesday from 7-9, weights Wednesday (biceps and back), Jiu Jitsu Thursday from 7-9, weights Friday (shoulder and legs), and Jiu-Jitsu Saturday from 1-5, and I also cross train in MT. The only day I take off is Sunday.
