  • Yet another armbar questoin

Hey there i'm back. I was grappling with a few buddies the other day and decided to try an armbar on him. I got in the correct position and everything but his arm was crooked.Yes crooked. His arm was at an right angle with hisfist pointing in the same direction as his head. What am i doing wrong?

Sounds like you didn't have enough of his arm. If you'd had a lot of his arm then it wouldn't matter if it was bent coz you could just straighten it back out.

Yo, yo, yo I thought I heard someone say my name. Back once again. Haven't been around in a while cuz it's almost deer season and I had more pressing issues at hand.

I have seen people do the armbars different ways and some just work better than others. When you grab the guys arm where are you grabbing at and what part of your arm are you using? When I go for the armbar I just wrap the arm around and start with my forearm against theirs and then slide on down until I have my forearm to their wrist. If you are grabbing with your hand on their arm it is likely that they will be able to bend the arm before you can complete the lock.

The whole trick with an armbar is to trap the arm so it can't go sideways and so he can't pull it back out.

            Hope that helps.

              Time consuming?

              Perhaps.

How it's done if you need to get a better lock on a loose one?

              Yes.

If it takes a few extra moments, thats fine. Sometimes it just works out that way.

What's the difference if it takes an extra moment anyhow? I don't know how many clean armbars all of you have seen with people that know what they are doing but when you have two people that know anything about grappling most of the time it ends up in a pulling contest to get the arm extended once you move into position.

A simple rule for armbar is "thumbs up." When you seize the arm, do so in a way that the thumb is facing "UP" then squeeze your knees together as you raise your hip. Simple enough?...

There you are. Been looking all over for ya. Well anyway that's what i did. Even though i did that his arm was still bent. So i had to twist his arm to the right abit before i had to do it. You guys don't have problems like this?

Take the extra time to get it right. What's the problem? You got muffins in the oven?

A good tight armbar is a result of positional dominance most of the time.
If you rush it, you will often be too loose to finish. Don't go for it until you have the following positional points:

Control his arm between the wrist and elbow before you sit back. Extend (stretch) his arm straight and keep it tight to your body before you sit back. Have you weight on him so that your crotch and /or butt is tight against his armpit before you sit back. Get your second foot over his head and knees squeezed together before you sit back(lean toward his knees while keeping your weight on him to accomplish this).

Arm no can bend if done correct!

you basically have to arch your belly against
the locked / extended elbow. Sometimes it
is not easy to do. You can also ,, that is
if you get a chance, place his arm under neath
one of your arms and the side of your chest
while locking his head with your leg.
and you can apply the forearm against the back
of his extended elbow.... here you can really
overextend the locked elbow . It is like a front
foot lock position except his elbow would
be xtended and facing the back of your body.

hook his arm with yours. his arm should stay in the crook of your arm. Don't grab his arm with yours hands. just hook it with one arm to keep control. Even if it's bent, if you have it hooked with yours it will be easy to get it back, and then you can use your other hand to twist his hand to get the thumb up if you need to.

When his arm is bent, is it bent up or down?
