    my whole life ive been a timid and shy person. ive always been afraid of fighting too. i just wasnt born a fighter, and thats ok. i still stood up for myself when other kids would try to bully me though. however in the past couple years ive been coming out of my shell and my life has changed alot since i started working out and training in martial arts. im really getting into muay thai kickboxing alot. at our school we do light sparring in the classes, and the actual sparring class is a little harder, but these arent the same as competing in a ring vs another skilled thai boxer.i dont really want to compete, and i dont have to compete if i dont want to, but i feel if i dont, i am not being true to the art. i want to be a part of muay thai and experience it to the fullest. im just afriad of getting hurt. everytime u step in a ring theres a possibility of getting seriously hurt in kickboxing. do u veteran fighters have any advice? are u guys afriad of getting hurt? or do u just say **** it , whatever happens happens and go for it anyway? hmm mabye part of it is getting over the fear.

        Yes, i am too afraid of getting hurt, and i am also not born to be a fighter.......

        Techniques do change a lot to me.........

        and i do all i can for my sparring partner not to hit me, but forearm to forearm or sometimes a trading blows, its ok...... but i dont want my sparring partner to hit me.... i just want to hit my sparring partner a lot......

          Dude, you are still the foremost biggest freak whose posts I've read on the internet.

          Emptyness, getting over the fear of getting hit is what martial arts is all about. There is a power in overcoming that fear, sparring hard (taking some pretty hard hits) will help and if you get a chance to fight in the ring it will greatly help, whether you get hit or not it will boost your confidence having accomplished and gotten through it. Things rake time though, if you just started training a few months ago.... things take time.

            im not really afriad of getting hit persay. getting hit is ok, its a good thing, it help me. i just dont want take a devastating life changing hit, like getting my face criushed in with a knee, or having my jaw and all my teeth shattered with a hardcore elbow and having to spend months in a hospital and be deformed for life. this isnt too common in competition, but it does happen and theres always a risk. arent any of u fighters concerned with receiving such a hardcore injury?

              Ya it is rare to get such a horrendous injury, but it does happen occasionally. Don't mean to scare you further but people die in the ring in Thailand every year. If your defence is strong and you don't get matched up with someone waaaaay out of your league you should be ok. Bad things happen by either freak accident (you zigged when you should have zagged) or there is a really bad mismatch and one opponent is far superior to the other and he is viscious and aggressive and the other guy has a really stupid defence and doesnt cover when he should obviously cover. Dude my first fight was in Thailand and was set up by rough looking gangsters in the back parking lot of the bar I was going to fight out of and I thought I was gonna get creamed but I still went ahead and did it. Turned out it was a mismatch in the opposite direction.... but it was a great experience. I truly encourage you to do it, just make sure whoever matches you up is trustworthy and will make it an even match. You will be vey happy for doing it, win or lose.

                Just like everything else in life, it's a matter of risk and reward. Minor injuries are common. Major injuries are less common. It all depends on how badly you want it and what benefit you perceive from taking the risk.

                  Just look at it this way....

                  Think of how many people play football... even in highschool. To me, football is a lot harder on your body that any kind of fighting and the injuries are usually worse.

                    are you sure its not more fear of losing? cos it is with me....sometimes control it sometimes can't.

                    last time I didnt and lost badly, not in a beat up damaged type of way, just comprehensively. He knew I was scared and bullied me.

                    I could have beat him. My instr. was being nice saying all the 'at least ya got in and did it, always gotta be a loser' sort of stuff.


                    My mate slapped my face and told me I could have/should have knocked him out.

                    Fear is bad, but harness it and its good (i have no idea how to harness it, Im just relating )
