Standing throws are allowed as long as you don't throw an opponent over another part of your body, ala the "hip toss" or "over the shoulder throw".
The throws are usually twisting throws or sweeps. You cannot perform "hooking" sweeps, though.

Also, you are not allowed to bite or to spit. Conversely, you can be hit anytime unless you do not have both butt cheeks upon the ground. That is why, when thrown, Thai boxers traditionally lie flat and do not attempt to roll to their feet (inviting a kick to the back of the head). You also are taught to keep your arms in close to your body if you are thrown, to reduce chances of an arm or elbow being broken by a shin kick. In muay Thai Boran classes you always follow your thrown opponent expressly for that purpose. Throws are mostly designed to make the opponent fall straight down (any judoka can tell you how hard these are for proper breakfalls) but sometimes you throw them away hoping they will roll.
