  • weight loss before fight (vain question lol)

I'm not a pro or anythin but I do fight kinda regular. I normally find when I add the extra intensity and runnin to my trainin 6 week before a fight, I lose about 7-10lbs. I look nice and cut, don't lose too much muscle (I use weights regulairly) but I reckon I lose half that weight off my face (i look pretty cut anyway)

I look so drawn I look like a 40 year old heroin addict.

Should I just eat loads more (I really do watch what eat allthe time, loads of brown bread, rice, potatoes, fish, white meat, not much fat, loads of fruit) and fight a few pounds heavier, or is it just unavoidable and I should stop being so vain (i can't help being pretty )

Real Kit Cope - i noted your degree, any tips?

    Hey buddy
The first thing you could change are high glycemic foods like potatoes, and fruit. Also, it's more drying out than anything. So, make sure that you are constantly overhydrated until about a week out, then cut back on sodium intake and cut your water way down. Even to the point of sips. You are basically trying to dehydrate. And it only takes about 12 hours to fully rehydrate.

Is the dehydration process just to make weight, or does it serve another purpose?

Tongpo, sorry to butt in on your thread.

"drying out" or dehydrating is just to make weight. You can effectively lose up to 10 pounds of "temporary" weight. Weigh in at 170, fight at 180. We all do it.

          Kit is correct.

Usually when I fight, 1 week before I fight I'm up to 10 lbs over fight weight, and I spend the week "drying out". I try to do it gradually over the course of the week. Then right after weigh-in's, I have a program I follow to refuel and rehydrate that seems to work pretty damned good, so come fight time I'm feeling in top form.

FYI- my "program" is merely me intaking specific foods and beverages to restore my body and get a boost of energy. It isn't rocket science, lol. Eat bananas, drink sports drinks and water, protein shake, etc.....

Watch your hearts guys, especially if you are taking any kind of Thermogenic or dieretic supplement (probably spelled wrong). The heart is a muscle too and can be damaged. There is no getting around the weight loss when you are intensly training for a fight. Your metabolism just shoots up. You start sweating when you walk up stairs. Your body is just in a "go" state all the time. I myself find it hard not to loose to much weight when training for a fight. The most important thing is to give your body the fuel it need to not only recover but to load for the next workout. A bad workout is bad training and holds you back from progressing. So don't "sweat" the face thing. Just pay the price in the gym for the victory in the Ring. Just my 2 cents.

Diuretics are bad news for fighters, while they may work well for bodybuilders and the like, it's a bad idea for fighters as it tends to dehydrate you and will be undergassed and not have as much endurance as you normally did. A safer way and a good standby is to avoid all the starches you can and graze throughout the day, you can drop weight safely and surprisingly well that way, and many fighters use it for a variety of different competitions.

                Tim3,
I noticed you're in the Chicagoland area. Which gym to you train or teach at? Is is a MT or boxing gym?

I was an instructor at Degerburg Academy, Aiki Training Hall, and Absolute Fitness. The last Gym I trained at recently closed down. I have spent many years training and now try to concentrate more on family and career. It is difficult to find a good place to train at in our area.

Yea, Tim. I now know who you are. I actually sent you an e-mail asking about any good MT places in the area. (I got your e-mail addr. from the MT site) I am in Arlington Heights and was going to start training at Absolute Fitness but the place closed down. It's really sad that there are so few places in Chicago to learn MT.

You are actually thinking about another Tim who was an instructor at absolute fitness. The reality is that making money running a Thai Boxing school is difficult.

                        special diet

You got all the answers you need from these fine gentleman but I would suggest a diet of lot crack rocks, speed, and glass...just kidding man. I'm just having flashbacks of the dude that schooled William Syripai in KOTC..if that guy isn't on something than he needs to be to calm down.
Hey Kit if you read this post can you tell me how the guy did that knocked out the black guy from Alberto's camp(seattle/tacoma WA). I heard some possible bs from somebody I know in alberto's camp that alberto's fighter "Eshawn" was schooling the guy until he tiiped him and knocked out his teeth. I just want to get a unbiased story of what happened and figured you saw the fights.
