im not continuing this arguement. sihing is convinced that his way is better, "just because". that isnt an arguement to anyone over the age of four buddy. As I have continually stated (and you have ignored)- show us the proof. show us someone using WC techniques in any fight. videotape your guys sparring and put it up, im sure someone on this site would gladly host it if you cant. because the fact of the matter is that all you are doing is blowing hot air by saying "WC is more efficient" without ANY proof of it except your own opinion. MT has been proven over and over again in the ring. WC has not. the onus of providing proof is on you.

I never stated that MT was a pussy MA, just that the movements of it are not as efficent or effective for the average person like WC is

True you can thrust fingers into somebodies eyes...but so can a thai boxer (not in the ring...of course...or can I???)...there's really no skill in jabbing an eye.

I have to agree that muay thai is alot more simple than wing chun and packs more power. I'll give the wc fighters an advantage on straight punching speed and some pretty good infighting techniques, but honestly I think we would have seen a wing chun dude move up the ranks in K-1 by now and earn his place amongst the best stand up fighters.
K-1 doesn't seem to discriminate, they took an ex-defensive lineman, a sumo wrestler, former professional boxers, toughman champions, muay thai fighters from all over and even a Tae Kwon Do black belt who has KO'd B-class fighters and fought a decision loss to Masato (I'm talkin about Serkhan Ylmaz).
They could use a good pure wingchun fighter to make it interesting. Where are they?

Looks like you got me there guys, lol. I will have to think for a few days to respond to these wonderfully answered rebuttles to my explainationary posts.
Listen I'm not here to prove anything to anybody, just engaging in some debate. Could care less what anyone thinks about WC as I am sure most could care less about my opinion. Great, lets agree to disagree..SEE YA

Sihing, you still around?
You get credit for promoting wingchun. I believe it could be a solid art if trained against different kinds of fighters, such as those whom fight in MMA venues.
If a wingchun guy sparred with boxers & muay thai guys using wingchun and picked up a grappling art, such as jiujitsu, sambo or even shuai chiao it would be very entertaining and probably beneficial for the art of wingchun.
As a form of self-defense, I would imagine wingchun is quite good having greater hand speed, timing and decent infighting skills could overcome the average person.
What I mean by sparring is fighting for continuous rounds against someone who has decent training in either arts; not a fellow wingchun student who throws one punch and cooperates.
That's my $0.02

There is a new guy who comes to the Muay Thai gym. He trained WC for 10 years, about the same time I have trained Thaiboxing. It is silly when he trys to spar. None of his WC stuff works. He gets dominated by guys with a year training. Makes me smile...

but really, this entire thread reminds me of a priest trying to convert a non-believer. the priest's basis is his bible and the non-believer's basis is science. but really, even after hours of talking, no one is going to convince the other. each one already has a set belief and they are not about to change them so easily.
as for muay thai verus wing chun, this is a kickboxing forum so obviously there is a bias. there will also be a bias if it was on a wing chun forum. lets just agree to disagree, both arts have their uses. But I think that we can agree that the best art is one that is, to quote bruce lee, "formless".
So let's just end the arguement here. There is really no need to get upset or become sarcastic on these threads. It's only the internet anyway.
Next debate, muay thai verus muay chaiya
j/k :P
