  • best muay thai instructionals

can anyone please name their favorite instructional tapes? please dont just include the instructor but the particular tape. I like all of chai sirisute's tapes but want to get more and was thinking about master K's 2nd tape, maybe his new workout tape and his tape on elbows which they say he is a master of. I also have an interest in Duke Rufus's tapes but cant affrord all of them. I have 6 months Muay thai experience and am interested in suppplementing with video training. I also have heard many good things about Kru Vut Kamnark's stuff. any input appreciated...TIA

I would pass on the Master K tapes I thought they werent all that good and dont measure up to most of the tapes on the market. I heard he was a master of the elbow but was a bit baffled by the claim especially after seeing what he was doing. I prefered the saekson janira tapes to his actually. The Duke Roufus set is well rounded as it includes some outside approaches that work within muay thai. Kamen's set is real good but its edited terribly with alot of repeats. His tapes though show alot of good techniques and have alot of good explanation. I have a few of vut's tapes and they are rudimentary with one or two better than others. Try to get also get kru yodthong senanan's muay thai two set dvd which seems to be out now in different places, it has alot of good info on it. Greg Nelson Clinch tapes are good because they just focus on the clinch. There isnt suprisingly a definitive tape or tape series as of yet on muay thai. Hopefully there is one coming. I havent seen the new bob carver series yet but look forward to checking it out. Just my two cents. Hope that helps.

Rodney King has some good vids on striking especially in the boxing zone and clinch. He goes a little overboard with the crazy monkey thing but I guess its his selling tool or marketing thing. Just a good addition to the tool box. You can absorb the material relatively quickly which is good. I personally liked alot the rob kamen set which for me showed alot of good stuff and the duke roufus set as whole sets to purchase.

Amazon has the kru yodthong dvd set (or punch in muay thai dvd in the search box):

              damn good

got the dvd from amazon. it was totaly awesome and comprehensive. narrated voice over by some british guy while the master shows techs on his students. very comprehensive in instruction, the history of the art. it even went into detail about how to learn the wai kru dance and explained it step by step. really a steal. got mine off amazon for $17 bucks plus shipping. A steal!

                  George Stando....

Which set of Master K's tapes are you referring to? There is the TURTLE PRESS series, and then his own personal series. If you are referring to the TURTLE PRESS series, then I would agree with you. His own personal series is good, IMHO, though the production quality isn't top-notch.

But yes, he was an elbow tactician. I know, he trained me.

                    Khun Kao:
I have the turtle press series and one of his personal tapes. I have most of the tapes out on the market as well have trained in thailand. I don't feel his tapes hold up against yodthong, chai, kamen, roufus, janjira, etc in terms of performance, explanation or execution. its just my opinion and nothing more. I didnt feel they were worth the money. I didnt see anything special about his elbow execution but if he was an elbow ko specialist when he was young and fighting then thats cool. But nothing of the like is in the tapes that would suggest that. The person on this thread asked for suggestions and I offered mine based on my own observations. You can disagree and offer your own suggestions.

                      George....

Wasn't attacking your credibility or opinion. I agree that the Turtle Press videos aren't all that good, but I've always heard decent reviews of his personal series. If you don't like them, that's cool.
