I read a post by Muay Siam describing a basic in MT called "Stepping in three zones". I 've been in MT for almost 2 years and have never heard of this. I know we have several instructors on here, can you explain this to me. I'd hate to skip a basic fundamental like this.

That's the distance you'd have to move your pinky in order to not sound like an idiot. I know the burden of pressing shift to capitalize is a great one, but c'mon, you can do better than that. I used to type emails in caps like yours, but then I decided that I didn't want a job mixing concrete.
maybe he meant... stepping
1. back and forth
2. side to side
3. diagonal
just stepping and dragging.. iono he could mean something else? ..prolly

The Yang Sam Khum, which literally translates into “3 steps in 3 step paths”, refers to the ability to increase one's awareness, strength, and courage to the level that would frighten away even beasts. It is from this legend that Muay Thai derives its name for its unique footwork system - from which one can go in all directions safely without having to fear any attacks. Whether a fighter is skilled or not, one can judge clearly from his Yang Sam Khum.

suksun's correct
yang sam khum is a method of stepping for defending, attacking, and evading.
there are three angles, your current position, foward to the right, and foward to the left, creating a triangle trapping your opponent in your path.
stepping is by lifting your shin to guard and stomping in each step both ways. this stepping method is mostly used to intimidate your opponent, to take controle of the game. nowadays it's almost only being used in wai kru rituals...pity.
you can also do the yang sam khum within your mind, for explanations i think you may ask suksun, he should know the same.
