  • Dumber after Thaiboxing?

    Hi there,

I live in Norway and im 19 yrs old and was training my body to have a good shape. Now i consider to start on Thaiboxing in my town. What i wonder... Im studying business and i need to have a good mind and shit.. "Do you feel or get dumber by getting hit in the head for many times?" How does it feels after you have been hit in the head for many times?!?

    Thanks,
    tolejh

Well.. one of my instructors kept saying the wrong things from what he meant
then he's like... blah sorry, i've been hit in the head too many times.

He was probably just joking, but im not sure, I dont feel dumber, but I've only taken a few shots to the head~

Sparring is done fast, but controlled meaning you shouldn't be getting hit hard enough in the head to get KO'd or knocked down even. You might get stunned or staggered, but if you are conscious about defense, you should be making punches & kicks miss as much as possible, if possible. Otherwise you are parrying or blocking.

From what I've seen when you prepare for a fight, you ramp up the contact gradually until a few weeks before the fight then you are going close to full contact. After the fight, you take it easy for a week or so, then get back to conditioning, light sparring, working on what you learned about your fight.

My last year in college was when I began studying SanShou kb and was thrown into the ring early. So at times I was a punching bag for those who were preparing for upcoming fights. Yes it sucks getting hit and often my head would be pounding but as time went by I found myself getting better. As my confidence built in the ring it was equally growing in school. I found myself more out spoken and risky! It helped me become a better student and even now it affects my career.

If you are concerned about getting "DUMBER" don't be, train hard and it will help everything, if this "DUMBER" thing is a major concern then I suggest you find another less physical activity.

I am not sure I understand this thread all together. Is the question really necessary to ask. Sorry, I am not trying to be an asshole here, but Muay Thai fights do not have any higher risk of getting hit in the head than, boxing, MMA, football, rugby, baseball, basketball, or many other sports. I don't see anyone coming out of them any "dumber". Yes, I have known some "punch drunk" guys reminiscent of Rocky in Rocky V, but that was their own fault. Look at all the Thai's who have well over 100 fights, some over 200 or 300 fights....they are still going strong, some of them teaching here in the states..are they dumb now because they did Muay Thai?? I think not.

Train hard, but Train smart and you will be fine.
