More important than your skills is your "Mindset". You have to make up in your mind that YOU HAVE A CHANCE to survive a multiple attack situation.. So many people are conditioned to think that it is impossible to defend against multiple opponets thus they are already defeated because of a negative attitude.

Go for the leader of the bunch, hurt him first and good. Observe the attacking order and defend in the order of attack. If someone is standing off to the side, don't worry about that guy yet. Get the one closest to you. Teeing off and knowing pressure points will help tremendously in a multiple attack situation. Most groups are actually stunned that a person fights back when he is out numbered.

To me It's simple like the Marine Core motto. "Do or die" Also, one last point, If you can catch the leader or biggest guy in a devastaing standing choke hold -the rest of the cronies may be so stunned that you have won....just by neutralizing the leader. You gotta be in shape, you gotta have striking, kicking and grappling skills. Some schools actually have mulitple attack drills...........take advantage of the practice.

If someone tells you that you have no chance against a jump; avoid that person because he is already defeated by his negative mindset.

Of course Muay Thai has tactics for multiple attackers, just like any other
"effective" combative system. You still fight one person at a time, just that the time between each opponent is extremely minimal (like seconds or less), but your best option is still, to get away, avoid in the first place, or use verbal skills (which I have done). You do have options, Hardball is right about stopping one of them right away and with great force..make a "statement" for the rest to ponder. Maybe they don't actually wanna get hurt if they see how serious you are.

        clip from CKY

check out this clip. mike vallely is a proskater and is one of bams homies and is pretty tough and theres a clip of him beating on 4 guys that were bigger than him for calling him a fag. he was just more agressive than all of them. dl this clip its fucking awesome. mike v doesnt even train in a ma, imagine if he did. although it looks like he does some kinda wrestling takedown on one of em. also notice how he just surprised them all.

I totally agree. BUT, sometimes you don't have a choice and go there unexpectedly, but try to get up as quickly as possible. I do not reccommend this as a first response, but biting and pinching works wonders to get a guy off of you who is too heavy or skilled to move wiht technique...when you have to get up fast, that is one sure fire way. Kino Mutai is a tape by Paul Vunak that explains this.

I have mentioned Vunak twice now in this and another thread. I am not trying to promote him, just brought it up because I believe his tapes are great material to train for street encounters.

Well, footwork is highly important. If you want drills, pretty much make up your own and just have the goal of acquiring good multiple opponent skills - good footwork, keep moving, speedy strikes, hard strikes, and get out of there as soon as you can. First drill is to make sure you can move so your friends have to know how a gang usually attacks - it is never one one one. Have one drill where they run at you and another where they are already upon you. The best footwork is to have one opponent block another so you have to angle them in (its like using one to setup a pick on another) and if you keep moving then you can make it so they attack one at a time despite their best wishes (which obviously means also that you hit the one closest to you). Practice in small spaces. Remember that your main goal is to get out of there so do that as soon as possible (think jackie chan or tony jaa). So have a bunch of friends gear up (helmets, chest, gloves, shin, groin, foot protection) and you really put a whooping to them (still be careful you don't get caught in the heat of the moment). Add a weapon that you might find in certain locals, if you've taken fma, not too unlikely that a stick may be laying around or you put a rock in a sock, etc. Be creative and realize that depending on the abilities of your attackers you may not always be able to get out unscathed, so your main goal has to be to run even if that is the first thing you can do before the situation even escalates (so also practice running a couple of miles full speed ).

I don't really think they were bigger than him, and really they didn't want to fight or didn't know how (except maybe one guy who actually tried to stand toe to toe with vallely).

                      No, its not.

Its a sure fire way of having a heavier, more skilled grappler on you who is now more determined than before to inflict permanent damage to you.

I tend to agree with python, pinching can be very effective (but biting you have to worry about AID's etc). A good, well placed pinch can free up a hold making it easier to get off the ground, and if you don't know this then you haven't been pinched.

                          Fer cryin' out loud.

You would be much better served by at least trying to gain some skills than by selling yourself false hope this way.

Do you disagree due to experience, Jubaji? Or do you just know it all? Have you ever been bitten? Have you ever bitten someone? Ever pinched the inside of the thigh or upper arm? ever rammed a finger into someone's eye? All, of these things generate a mobile reaction out of the attacker, in any case, you will atleast have more room to make your own move and escape.

Check out Kino Mutai video by Paul Vunak. It explains it very well and shows what a bit does to a slab of raw meat through a t-shirt. Watch it and maybe you will understand.
